Dusty is a sweet, timid cat in need of a loving home. She would make an ideal barn cat to keep larger animals company and ward off rodents, as she still avoids direct contact with people. With love, patience, and a place to hide, she could also adapt to an indoor lifestyle. She has been fed by people for 2 years since she was a juvenile, and taking shelter under a dumpster at an office building. Her home was recently overrun by raccoons, which were then relocated. The landlord does not want to attract further animals by allowing this cat to continue to be fed. She has been trapped and brought to the vet, where she was given her vaccinations and other treatments. She was discovered to have already been spayed previously, but has tested positive for FIV. This means that she could expose a risk of infection to other cats (although she is docile and not aggressive), and that her immune system is compromised. The unsanitary nature of her previous living conditions would present a continuing danger to her health. Dusty is currently being fostered in temporary housing, but we cannot continue to shelter her for long. Our apartment complex has a strict no-pet policy; this violation could lead to our eviction. We are hopeful that someone will be able to give this needy cat a better chance at life.
