UPDATE: After seeing an AK9I certified dog trainer, it has been recommended to us that he be homed to a single family with no kids or dogs and can be their #1 priority. He is super protective and has confidence issues, which will take an extensive amount of time that we are unable to provide at this time. Here is the Facebook link to the trainers page/post with our boy: https://www.facebook.com/caleb.catron/posts/1923172281059948 (b/r)Chip is a male Belgian Malinois who's behavior is not compatible with our family. We have two children (13 and 3) that he gets along with great, but anyone outside our immediate family he does not get along with. This poses a problem when our 3 year old is playing with the neighbors kids in the 6-9 year old range. We have had three instances where he has shown negative behavior. 1: when he was still a puppy going to obedience classes, he licked/nipped a little boys cheek. 2: Our 3 year old opened the door after the UPS driver rang the doorbell and Chip went after the UPS driver, biting her hand and drawing blood. 3: Our neighbor's daughter, even after being told not to open any of our outside doors by us and her parents, opened the back door and he went after her; biting the helmet she was wearing and scratched her face. We love him to death and he is an integral part of our family but he has become a liability to not only our girls but to our neighbors as well and we cannot allow that to happen. We have taken him to two different obedience trainers (Offleash K9 in VA Beach and Enzo's Acres in Vancouver, WA). He has completed basic and advanced lessons as well as a two week board and stay. He knows sit, lay down, come to heel, through (sits between legs), heel, place on objects and is e-collar/choke collar trained by the companies. His obedience is great, he is just unpredictable when it comes to other people and animals. If there is any clarification needed feel free to contact me. Thank you.
