About Simon

Adoption Fee: $25
Lab / German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Simon will be turning 2 this month. I do not have copies of shot records. But he was seen as a puppy at culpeper animal hospital and received a 2 year rabies and bordetella vaccination. He lived with another dog for the first 11 months we had him but she sadly passed away July 2017. Which effected him and he was sad for several weeks actually. But he gets very excited when he sees another dog but it's never a growl always a whimper and tail wags. He currently lives with one cat. He usually pays no mind to the cat unless the cat attacks him which usually is a pop on the nose and he drops to the ground to show he means no harm, he does not get easily flustered. After several attacks and scratches to his face one time he pinned the cat with his nose but did not open his mouth while tail wagging. He barks at sounds such as bangs or slams or doorbells. Normal dog barks. There is always a reason for his barks. He really is a good dog. He comes when he's called. He plays chase the ball. Hasn't mastered bringing it back yet. He usually needs a little time to wind down before he'll sit and lay down usually about 5 - 10 min of attempted face licks and occasionally jump ups. He responds very well to being corrected. Up until last month he lived at a house with a huge back yard and would run until he couldn't run anymore. He is very fast. He has outran plenty of squirrels but once he corners them he turns back around to continue running the yard. He is not food aggressive with humans. I am able to take the bowl while he is eating. He was never fed with other dogs as we did not want to run the risk of food aggression while he was a puppy and he become hurt. He's all black with a white strip on his chest. About 45 pounds. His mother was a German shepherd/lab mix and father was a mutt. He loves baths and will hop in the tub every time you let him. He is crate trained and will whine when he needs to go outside. He pulls while on a leash but responds to verbal correction. He really fits the description of mans best friend and my heart is filled with sorrow having to give him up but after months of my 17month old son having painful rashes, blisters, and breathing issues we recently were told that he has severe allergies to dog dander and saliva. We attempted to put him on a medicine regime and vacuum 3 times a day but it became unfair to Simon that he was restricted to one room for majority of the day and not able to lay with us nor play with the my son which they both loved very much. I want him to have his old life back where he was out and about and free to be the good boy I've always known him as.
