About Memphis

Adoption Fee: $50
Chihuahua / Rat Terrier
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Memphis was adopted about six years ago for my stepdaughter. She moved out about 3 years ago and left Memphis with us because she was not allowed to have a dog where she lived. He has lived here in our home with my husband and our two adult sons, two other dogs, three cats, and a cockatiel. Memphis is a loving dog and likes to be petted and spoiled. He is also a good watch dog and barks to alert us when someone is at the door. The cats he could take or leave although he will bark at them when they come out of the bedroom. As you can see in the pictures, he just kind of is a laid back kind of fellow most of the time. He also works with disabled adults (one of them is a Special Olympics athlete pictured) Memphis loves small children, but he doesn't understand how to behave with them. My grandson is about 2 years old and he and Memphis do not work together. Memphis is not patient with very young children. Be this jealously, I do not know, but we cannot have him loose with my grandson around. My grandson is showing a fear of dogs now because of this and that is not good. Since he was so attached to my stepdaughter, he would probably love to be with a woman. He is a very loving dog, and would be a good apartment dog. He also likes to get on his hind legs and beg when he is excited. Memphis is crate trained. He will sleep in it at night and at other times when he needs to be secured. (like when my grandson is around) I will also provide a crate for him to the person who is adopting as well as any heartworm or flea medication that I have for him as he is the only dog I have this size. Memphis had a full physical in June and is free of heartworms and is in good health. His health records can be transferred as needed to your vet without a problem. Even though Memphis lives with other animals, he's kind of a loaner. He and Bullet have been together for six years and they do play sometimes, but since the death of our golden retriever in August 2017, he's not been as frisky as he would (he played with her a lot) Lately he's become very possessive with dog strips (that we give the dogs as a treat). He has decided that he would like to fight one of the other dogs (Bullet, the black lab) to get the strip which of course causes problem. Note: He doesn't like to take pictures very well. The dog he's playing with in this picture is a 85 pound golden retriever.
