About Laney

Adoption Fee: $50
Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Laney is a good dog. She has a good track record of being good with kids, other dogs, cats and adults with only one exception. My wife and I had our first child in December and prior to our baby's arrival, Laney had been getting all the attention. From the day we got back from the hospital, Laney has been a bit jealous of our new baby and has become slightly depressed. It hasn't been a real issue until she lightly growled at our child this last weekend. Our baby was close but not touching Laney. Some may think this isn't that big of a deal, but we are taking this behavior very seriously as we will not risk it escalating. We were shocked, as Laney has played with kids at the beach as well as neighborhood kids and always been so good with them. She is submissive and will roll on her back to expose her belly to even small kids. (5-6 yr. olds) This is why the growl surprised us so much. I think she would be best in a single dog home. She is a very affectionate, attention-seeking dog. She loves going to the dog park, playing with her kong or nylabones, going for runs, and she is great at cuddling. She attends doggy day-care regularly and is well adapted to being around other dogs outside of the home. She knows all basic commands including sit, stay, lay down (or just 'down'), spin (one of her tricks) and go potty. (She almost always goes on command) She is housebroken and rarely has an accident. If she does, it's our fault for not paying attention or letting her out enough. She can stay in the crate during normal work hours without having an accident. We rescued her from the side of the road 2 years ago. We found her emaciated, starving, and clearly neglected. She had no collar, no radio chip or any identification of any type. After posting photos in lost dog facebook groups and notifying local shelters, it became apparent that she was an unwanted stray. Since finding her, she has filled out and become a good dog with the one previously mentioned exception. We have kind of noticed that a side effect being abandoned is that she does have a slight abandonment issue. We think the jealousy and depression are the symptoms of this abandonment complex. We got a dog dna test for her that said she was 15/16 Staffordshire Bull Terrier and the other 1/16 said 'Undetermined Terrier' - so she is as close as it gets to pure bred without being pure bred Staffy. We're searching for the right home for her. Ideally, her new home will have a large fenced in back yard with plenty of room to run.
