About Luna

Adoption Fee: $waived
Australian Kelpie mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Luna is a classic herding dog. Her dream home would be a working ranch because she's ready to go at the drop of a hat and lives to work. When she gets excited or there is commotion, she does the classic 'nipping, grabbing' which most dogs do not like. She also exhibits Kelpie like 'jump on the back' behavior which does not go over well with most dogs. She is currently living with several dogs which is not ideal for her. She gets along fabulously with the two large male dogs in the house (large German Shepherd/Rottweiler and x-large Rottweiler). They are not bothered by her bad herding manners and all 3 race around the yard in fits of joy and love tug-o-war. She postures with 2 of the female dogs in the house (will grab their hindquarters if there is a knock on the door, blocks them from jumping on the bed, etc. and as such has to be closely managed. Luna has ambitions of being top dog, so we are hoping for a home ideally with no other dogs, or possibly a large, stable, confident male dog(s). While the above makes Luna sound high maintenance, absent other dogs she is an easy dog. She has impeccable house manners (fully house broken), is not over the top energetic (working streak is situation specific) as she is content to lay at your feet until you indicate its time to work or have fun. Her favorite thing is long mello leashed walks on our coastal trail as she loves to sniff the grass and root around. With land, Luna could entertain herself for hours. She is an excellent co-pilot in the car, is not overly needy for attention and prefers the cool floor to fluffy warm dog beds. It is not for lack of interest that Luna remains with us, she is a very popular size and look. However we've had only families with young children and other dogs inquire after her. For the reasons above we are looking for an experienced only dog home (this will make things easy on her adopter) or for an experienced large, stable, confident male dog home. Young children are not recommended because commotion results in nipping. We have not tested Luna with cats but given her breed would not recommend them.
