Kali has a temperament typical of German Shepherds: extremely intelligent, energetic, alert, and curious; superior sense of smell; strong-willed; fully trained; excellent with people; displays domineering tendency with other dogs, especially other females. We have had Kali since a puppy; was trained by a local expert in training German Shepherds. Although 9 years old, she behaves like a 5 year old. Our work and housing situation has changed and we have to move to a small apartment as well as take frequent long trips that are not suitable for Kali. We take her for for daily walks. At a local farm, has chased (and caught) rabbits, squirrels, groundhogs; has eaten some carrion (without permission!) to no ill effect except tape-worms once or twice. Loves to go in the water. Has had limited exposure to children, but when around them, has been very good, tolerant of ear-yanking and hugging. Likes petting, but is not a snuggler. Like most GSD, can seem a bit aloof. Can be relatively vocal with whines and grunts when she wants food or attention. She is best suited for someone without other pets and with ample space for her to roam and run.
