About Corky

What a sweetie this is! Say hi to Corky, a 5 year old terrier mix that weighs about 7 pounds. Her owner was sick and made the decision to surrender her to our rescue so we could find her a loving home. Corky took a few days to adjust and get used to her new surroundings and now she is hanging out and playing with her foster siblings. Corky was recently adopted not once but twice. She was returned the first time because she did not get on with the new owners existing dog. A female. The second time was because the new owner was out at work all day and Corky gets too anxious when left alone all day. We took Corky back to her foster mom and have been working with her to identify what it will take for her to really settle in a new home. First, she does need another dog in the house but she prefers males. She can tolerate females but it is an uneasy alliance and not guaranteed to last. With males she will play and even snuggle with them for naps. Second, she needs to be in a home where there will be somebody there most of the time. She gets separation anxiety and will be too anxious to be able to settle at all. That will impact her ability to bond with her new owner and vice versa. However, once Corky settles, she is very much a lapdog, will sit with you, and loves attention. She is a quiet dog and her foster mom has only heard her bark twice. She is housetrained and due to her size a fenced yard would be ideal. She has not been tested with cats. Corky is sometimes startled by noises so she would not be suitable for small children as their fast movements and activity level may scare her. She is heartworm negative and microchipped.
