About Maetel

Maetel is 1 year and 8 months. Food delivery man dropped her off at our home on Valentine's Day last year (2017) while we were living in Korea. We brought her to the States last September with intent to keep her for her life. However, Our family situation has changed so we have to give her up to new family. Jindo is not for a first time dog owner. Before you adopt her I suggest you read about the characteristics of Jindo at http://treasuredk9s.org/characteristics-of-a-jindo/ I still love her dearly and enjoyed every bit of her, even her headstrong personality. I wish her to meet a family who is patient and committed. It can be challenging to get her to trust you but once she bonds with you she would be very unique and interesting dog to have. Though she has been very good to my 6 months old son (she would not care if he pulls his hair or whisker), ideally, she should be in a home with adult only or a family with older children (10+). She would do best if there is a fenced backyard because she prefers to stay outdoor most of time. We don't have yard but we have balcony and she loves to sit in the balcony looking at people passing by, birds flying by, squirrel chasing after another ect.. She barks at people occasionally but not unnecessarily or excessively. We leave balcony door open most of days so she can go in and out of house. If she was able to talk, she could tell me what happened each day in the neighborhood. She would do well in a home with another playful dog who is not dominant. She was never resource guarder with us. We could take her food away or mess around with her while she is eating without problem. However, she growls or snaps when other dogs try to take her toys away. She likes to play with other dogs but do not get along very well with dominant dogs like pit-bull. She walks well on a leash except when she is in unfamiliar places. Maetel is high energy dog. She loves to go to a dog park and play with ball. She also likes to play tug. In fact, she is very interactive dog so if you don't play with her, she will quickly lose interest in toys. She is almost the fastest runner in our neighborhood dog park. She can even beat Vizsla. Maetel is quite intelligent and follows all the commands like sit, down, paw, rollover, heel, stay ect. She always gets really excited to hear the word 'Gaja' which is Korean word for 'Let's go outside'. However, she usually does not take commands from strangers so it may take a while for you see her follow. She was never crate trained and did not need it because she is very respectful at home. If you don't want her to be in certain area, you don't need to install safety gate and you can simply say no, then she will not go there. She is completely house broken and almost never has an accident. She is up-to-date with vaccines, on flea prevention, microchipped and heart worm negative. She does not need to have a bath often because she cleans herself like a cat. After she rolls on dirt, in few hours she will be as white as snow again.She is not the most affectionate dog and may seem distant at first but she likes to be part of family and will show affection in her own way. It may take longer time for her to bond with different owner but if you are patient enough, she would be unique and lovable dog.
