About Luna

Our lovely Luna is a real heartbreaker. This gorgeous senior girl was surrendered by owners who could no longer care for her. Luckily, she came through the NYCACC Deferred Intake Program, which meant that Luna could arrive at the shelter on the same day she would be transported to us. She was spared the chaotic shelter lifestyle. We were impressed with the calm grace that this lovely girl displayed throughout her rescue journey. Usually dogs become stressed and reactive during this process, but Luna waited patiently to begin her uncertain future. Luna truly has one of the most lovely, gentle Siberian Husky temperaments that we have ever seen. She could join any kind of home, she fits in anywhere, and she has easily adapted to our wild and crazy foster home. Luna has great pack manners: she gets along with all kinds of other dogs, even ones who try her patience. We surmise that she may even be good with cats. Eight years old, Luna's 'mushing' days may be over, but she has alot of life and love to share with an openhearted family. Her energy level is moderate, and she doesn't require the excessive amounts of energy that most Huskies do. Luna is happy to relax with her person, and this makes her a good choice for laid back folks, seniors, apartment dwellers, or first time Husky owners. Luna has beautiful Siberian Blue eyes and a lush gray and white coat. She has a bowlegged, knock-kneed stance, that we had our vet investigate. X-rays revealed some arthritic changes to her knees, that require daily joint supplements. Her stance and gait are askew, but with healthy weight management, glucosamine and anti-inflammatory supplements, Luna will live a long life with full mobility. All of the diagnostic work has been done on her knees, so there is no guesswork on her excellent prognosis. Luna has good house manners is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. She is in excellent health, and is slightly overweight at 67 pounds. Luna should continue to lose weight, and then maintain at an optimal weight of about 50 pounds to relieve the pressure on her knees going forward. Luna is spayed, and has been vaccinated for rabies, DHLPPC (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parvo, parainfluenza and coronavirus), and canine flu. She has been boostered as needed. She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been dewormed, and microchipped.
