About Ragnar

American Bulldog
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Ragnar is a beautiful 4 yr old Alapaha Blue Blood Bull Dog. Shortly after getting Ragnar my husband was diagnosed with Asthma and we found he is allergic to dogs. We have had dogs most of our married life. My husband wanted to try and keep our dogs and he knew finding another home for them would be extremely hard on me. Ragnar has hip displasia, however when he was 1 we got him a hip replacement in one of his hips. The Vet told us that he would do well with one good hip and boy does he ever. He loves other dogs. He loves our grandchildren. He loves long walks and hikes. He can be stubborn. He growls to let us know he is hungry or when he needs to go out. He has done this since he was a puppy. Now that he is grown it could be quite off putting if you did not know what he was doing. He is a great watch dog. His only problem is he is very afraid of people he does not know. At the off leash parks he plays with all of the dogs and runs from the humans. If someone he does not know comes to our home he runs and hides or he sits and growls at them. Mostly he hides. I tell people he is afraid and let him come to them. When they don't listen because they are 'dog people' he growls or even has snapped a couple of times. He has never bitten anyone. We use shock collars on our dogs. We very rarely ever use the shocks only in times of their danger or something. He responds very well to the beep on the collar and follows commands. He knows all of commands as sit, stay, heal, come, I have to admit on heal I just have to keep saying heal, heal, he has a mind of his own but listens. He is a very sweet boy, wants to still be a lap dog. He knows not to get on the furniture but, he will jump in a bed if he feels the need, which is often LOL. He is also very good on a leash. He loves our other dog Fiona, she is 9 and we are going to try to keep her because of her age. I will be honest I actually don't know if I can go through with this. I would need to be very comfortable with whoever would take him. It is tough watching my husband not be able to breath. This is truly a dilemma for us.
