PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY BEFORE CONTACTING US At this time we would like to start searching for Blackie's furever home. We would like you to be retired & have a home in the Palm Springs area where Blackie could come to visit you over a period of time & get to know you slowly. We need to be sure he is entirely comfortable with you before adoption. Please read his backstory below to understand why I do not want to stress him out: Blackie Beau is a 3 year old, 16 pound, purebred Havanese who came to us via an AKC Havanese Breeder who wanted to shut her doors. His brother & half brother were quickly adopted but Backie Beau was just too shy & afraid so we kept him in the rescue for 7 months until we thought he was ready for adoption. We had major interest in him immediately & he was adopted one beautiful sunny day November 2017. Blackie Beau had been away from me for just 1 hour when his adopter lost control of his leash on a four lane highway & Blackie was hit by a car. We almost lost him due to the pain management that was applied to his body by the ER Veterinarian. Blackie's pelvis was shattered & his back left femur broken as well as every bone in his foot. The ER Vet also wrapped his foot too tightly which caused the foot to die so unfortunately, we had to amputate the entire leg. Blackie's recovery has been nothing short of brilliant/amazing /miraculous due to his amazing surgeon Dr. Shawn Behrenfeld, our Vet Dr. Sigdestad of Loma Linda Animal Hospital & the laser therapy we followed up with at VCA Palm Springs. It's been 8 months since the accident & Blackie is physically, emotionally & mentally back at 100%. He has no medical problems but we would suggest glucosamine & chondroitin supplements going forward to prevent arthritis . In addition to the above medical, Blackie Beau has had our entire vetting protocol as well. Our BASIC Vetting protocol is spay/neuter, all shots including Distemper, Parvo, Bordatella, Corona, Rabies, Heartworm Negative, Fecal to Laboratory, Dental, DeWormed & Micro-chipped with Home Again. We are able to offer one month of free medical insurance through Petfinder & a free rescue exam with one of our Veterinarians or someone local to you. We provide you with complete medical files. You need to do nothing for a year with our dogs as we have done it all. Blackie is fostered in Palm Desert & Our tax deductible adoption donation is $600.00. Blackie will need to be groomed about every two months & brushing several times a week. He does not matt & prefers pottying outside.
