About Ty

Meet Ty Why oh why is Ty still at our shelter??? Ty is one of the best dogs we've ever met. He is a beautiful three year old male American bulldog/Staffordshire mix. Ty's previous owners loved him terribly, but as their health failed they could no longer keep him and surrendered him to Animal Control in July 2018. We all know AC is no place for a dog like Ty and we took him into our shelter in mid-July. Ty is the gentlest of dogs, the handsomest of dogs and if he could be he'd be the king of dogs. To say we love Ty is an understatement. That's why seeing him day after day keeping vigil at his kennel door waiting for his forever family to come is heartbreaking. Every day he seems a little more resigned that his long-term fate will be a cold concrete floor and kennel confinement with no one to love and snuggle with him at night. Ty is a gentle dog with a calm and mellow personality. He loves being with people and kids and will happily stroll or sit if it means he can be with his people. In his past life he even used to sleep in bed with his owners. He eats like the gentleman he is and will nibble treats from your hand with just the tickling feel of his whiskers. He's quickly become a volunteer favorite and has been out walking/running with volunteers. He'd make for an excellent running companion. His favorite speed is a slow trot. Ty is indifferent to cats and seems to take other dogs in stride. Ty was house-trained when he came to us and we expect with a little retraining and patience he'll remember in no time. Ty is neutered, has tested heartworm negative and is current on his vaccinations. Ty is amazing boy who was once very much loved. Although his world has changed through no fault of his own, Ty greets everyone with a regal dignity and a warm wag of his tail. Once an application is submitted online, you will receive an email saying your application has been successfully submitted. If you don't receive this email within 24 hours, please check to make sure all application fields were completed or please call our shelter at 706-865-4135. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open. Adoption hours are Tues-Sat 10-4 and Sun 1-4.
