About Banjo

Adoption Fee: $350
Border Collie / Australian Shepherd
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

This is my dearly loved, fun, smart, beautiful, crazy Banjo! I rescued him as a pup at 7 months from being just an 'outside dog' where he received no attention and was absolutely crazy from being left out and unsocialized. Since he came into my life he has received lots of attention from both people and other dogs. He is wonderful with other dogs and just plays and plays, as long as the other dog wants to keep going. He is apprehensive of strangers, but as soon as he is confident they are friends, he can't get enough love from them. Children, however, are so, so scary to him. I am an obedience trainer, and have spent hours and hours over the past 8 months that I have had him, trying to socialize him with children. He has gotten much better, but still can't get too close (10 feet+) without him becoming very nervous. I have communicated with other trainers, and we have come up with a few other ideas to try, but it is quite likely he will never, or at least not for a very long time, be completely trustworthy off leash around children. I have many children of all ages in my home regularly, and I can not have a dog that I always have to worry about, both for the children and the dog. He is okay around our ponies, but wants to go after the goats, I don't know anything about herding, so I don't know if this could be directed in a positive way to herding or not. He is super smart, knows the names of numerous toys, knows a bit of agility, is a frisbee champ, and will do ANYTHING for his ball. We live on 5 acres that he gets to run and play on with my other Border Collie mix. He needs lots and lots of activity, but most of all, he wants to be near his person, snuggling and getting tummy rubs, and being reassured that he truly is a 'good boy.' So sad to give him up, I am looking for the perfect home for him. Obviously, there can be no children around on a regular basis. His new owner will need to be home most of the time to give him all the attention he needs. His person will need to keep up on the obedience training he has already received. (He's got a lot down already!) Banjo will need lots of physical activity - playing fetch is a must - and, he will excel at agility if that is a chosen route. He must be allowed to be both inside and outside with his people! His new person MUST have previous experience with Border Collies and/or Aussies. I am totally committed to making sure Banjo is loved as much as I love him. He is an adorable, sweet boy just lacking confidence with children. If you think you might be the right one for him, please call. :)
