Freedom didn't experience your traditional Fourth of July celebration. There were no fireworks, parties, or Holidays for this poor Pit Bull found on the side of the road. Barley able to stand, sheet white from severe anemia, so dehydrated her skin would just 'tent,' and her skeleton protruding from her fragile body....her hours were numbered! Immediate medical intervention was imperative. A catheter was placed, IV fluids administered, and slowly life began to return to this poor neglected dog. A bigger problem loomed ahead. She needed blood and she needed it quickly. With a PCV (red blood count) of 7 - the normal being 35- we had to find a donor dog. A robust Golden Retriever was located who donated the blood we needed to save sweet Freedom's life. Slowly and ever so surely, Freedom's color started to return. Her once white gums now had a faint pink hue.%A0 She lifted her head and wagged her tail-we knew she had rounded the corner! Now, Freedom is doing great-playing with her foster siblings and acting like a true puppy! She is still working on gaining some weight but besides that, she is a healthy girl and can't wait to find the forever home she deserves! Want to be the best part of Freedom's rescue story?
