BUDDY (Rat Terrier/Dachshund mix) - AVAILABLE!!! Only $65 adoption!!! Buddy has been bounced around a lot in his short little lifetime. He was originally surrendered to the shelter by a person who took care of him for a short time after his original owner passed away. During that time Buddy was mostly crated. Once at the shelter, Buddy was put on their adoption floor, adopted, and then returned to the shelter for biting a friend of the owner. Owner said that when the friend approached and attempted to greet the owner with a hug, Buddy bit the friend's hand defensively. So she returned him. He then had to go in to a 10 day quarantine at the shelter because he bit the owners friend, and when he showed fear, that landed him on their euthanasia list. That is when Safe Haven stepped in. He was nervous when he first got here, but friendly, and has since blossomed in to this sweet and loving little man. He is a little angel! He has been so easy to work with and he is a little joy! Because he has been so easy here, I chalk up the problems that the previous owner had with him as their fault for not seeing he was uncomfortable. He's such a great little man! Buddy loves to play. He plays with the squeaky toys & shakes them around, and he is great at playing fetch. He brings it right back to you and very gently gives you the ball. Sometimes he will push the ball around with his nose. It is SO cute! He also loves the big cushy dog beds, and will happily sleep in bed with you at night. So far he knows the words: Come, No, Inside (to go in the crate), Outside, and Go Potty. PLEASE NOTE: All of the pets at Safe Haven receive basic training when they come here. All adopters will be given a list of words that your new pet knows at the time of adoption. What each pet learns depends on how much time I have had to work with them, & if that pet has any additional issues that need to be focused on first. The pets here are always improving. Birthday: 2/19/16 Weight at last Vet visit: 15 lbs (Buddy came in very underweight to the point that we could see his bones. Small dogs don't need much to get them to a good weight. My guess is that he has only gained ounces since being here and is not more than 16 lbs.) Cats: He's great with cats. He's interested in them & will go up to them and check them out and tries to get them to play. Small Dogs: He's fantastic with other small dogs. Very friendly & playful. He would be a great dog park dog! Large Dogs: Slightly apprehensive when they sniff him, but friendly and interested. Kids: Unknown, but older kids only please because he has a bite history. Men: Unknown Women: Sweet and loving Strangers: He's apprehensive of people he doesn't know and stands behind me. He looks for security from me & wants me to pick him up. Warms up to new people with patience and treats though... Food: I feed all the dogs on a rotational diet. Which means they get a different brand of high quality food each month. I do this because I do not think that one brand can provide all the nutrients that they need. Just like one food can't provide us with all that we need...Plus, who wants to eat the same thing every day? All dogs are fed breakfast (7 am) & dinner (7 pm). Buddy has been a great eater and has eaten everything I have given him. He gets 1/2 cup for breakfast and again for dinner for a total of 1 cup of dry food a day. Plus for dinner, I add 1 tsp. organic coconut oil, & some type of extra goody like canned food, cottage cheese, pureed pumpkin, fruit or a veggie. Crate Trained: Yes, he will go in when asked 'Inside', and will hold it until you let him out. All the foster dogs are crated at night and when I am not here. House Trained: Yes, he hasn't had any accidents. He is still learning the doggy door, so I let him out every few hours. He will use the doggy door to come in, but not to go out, lol. I think it's because he wants to be wherever you are... Leash Trained: Yes, walks well on the leash, but gets nervous when people or cars go by. Car: He's fine in the car. Other issues: None, he's wonderful! Adoption fee is only $65 & includes: - Spay/Neuter surgery - Up to date on Vaccinations - Microchip - Collar - Harness * - Leash - Other surprise goodies from Safe Haven - Free office visit to Vet - 50% off any Optimum Wellness Plan - 30 days of free Pet Insurance - Other coupons from Partners - Available Paperwork: Spay/Neuter records, Vaccination records, Vet records, Micro records, Recommendation list, etc... - Continued Support: Safe Haven will be there for the lifetime of your new adopted pet.
