Gemma was an owner surrender at Conroe shelter on her final hours when a rescuer networked to try an save her life. It worked! She was adopted! A year and a half after being adopted, daily trips to the bus stop, starbuck trips, and many vacations, Gemma made a mistake. She was tethered to a trailer next to her owner and her owner's cousin on a family reunion in Arkansas when a stranger came up and Gemma reacted and bit the owner's cousin's leg which required 4 WHOLE STICHES. Gemma immediately let go and cowered. She knew she had made a mistake. Her owner didn't stop to think why it happend but instead decided Gemma should be euthanized because she was too much of a liability and labeled her as 'aggressive'. Her face didn't just rip my heart strings out but it also tore at my daughter's. We decided that even though we are not in the position of fostering right now, we could not let her die for after everything she had been through and 4 WHOLE STITCHES!! She is NOT perfect. She has issues (so I've heard). She isn't a dog's dog. She likes her people. She loves her ball but after a couple tosses, she's good with coming in and chilling out on the tile floor. She doesn't do cats either. She has been with me and in boarding for almost 3 weeks because I have a ton of life changes going on. I will tell you that Gemma is a special dog. I've fostered A LOT! She trusts certain people even though she has every reason NOT to trust people. She has been a perfect lovable, gentle, and silly girl in my home. Not every environment is perfect for her. Ideally, a single person or couple with older children and without other pets would be perfect for her. She's an attention hog. Decisions are going to have to be made that will force me out of rescue PERIOD if I don't find her a place. I will not be able to help another dog if I can't help her because it will break my heart too much. Her life matters!!!
