Hi Malory. We met on Sunday when I brought Bella in. Sorry for the delay in sending pics. Between my work schedule and having to run back and forth to keep our dog and Bella separately, it's been quite busy. If there were a way to acclimate our dogs to one another where I felt Bella would be kept safe with our Akita, Kiley, we would be happy to keep her longer and see if we could not find her a good long term home ourselves. If you have a good trainer or dog specialist that would be willing to come to our home and evaluate how this might be possible, I would be most grateful and I think we would be happy to avoid having to surrender her. It is not our first choice. Here is what I've learned about Bella thus far... 1. She won't stay outside in a back yard area without barking incessantly and wanting to come in where we are. If we put her inside and we are outside, she still barks. Hopefully some routine, time, and training can fix this. 2. She loves walks and hikes and does great on the leash. 3. She is well house trained and has had no accidents in the house. As soon as I take her outside, she does her business. 4. She barks when I leave for work and I don't know how long she keeps barking, but she's laying on her bed when I return. She seems to be ok inside for 4-5 hours at a time. 5. Once I'm in the house and just doing stuff, she settles in and is very calm and content. 6. She is sleeping well all night long. No late night pacing or needs. 7. She's sweet and playful! 8. She has been fine with all people. She initially barks, but when they come use to pet her, she's happy for the attention. 9. I have not taken her to the dog park yet, but plan to do so to see how she is with other dogs. My son reports she is fine, likes to play, and gets very excited. We will proceed cautiously with FYI Sent from my iPhone Begin forwarded message: From: Kristen Hern ([email protected]) Date: July 10, 2018 at 6:50:55 PM EDT To: [email protected] Subject: Pics of Bella (1) Show quoted text Hi Malory. We have recently taken Bella in because she was with a family that just didn't have time to properly care for her. They had a new baby and worked long hours and the dog was neglected. She deserves to be with a family that will care for her and keep her active. We cannot keep her because we have an Akita who is dominant and does not play well with others. She was fine with him, but would get excited and often knock him over when playing. I think she is better suited to kids a little bit older/bigger so she can play without knocking them down. 11. She loves my husband. Maybe she favors men? 12. She likes riding in the car. 13. She likes her bone. 14. No problems reaching around her when she has the bone or when she is eating.
