About Kush

Belgian Malinois / German Shepherd
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Greetings dear Animal Lovers. Kush is a 1 1/2 year old Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd, neutered male. He has been a part of our family since the beginning of May 2017. Kush has had obedience training, knows commands, is house broken and a great dog. He lives with 3 female humans, 1 Golden Retriever and 4 cats. The wonderfulness about dear Kush: Kush is loving, protective, sweet, playful and mindful. He is crate trained, but prefers to sleep with his human family or on the couch (when invited). He plays well with his brother dog, a Golden Retriever named Arlo. Typical of his breed, he is a high drive dog. He loves to run, play fetch and cuddle. He and his brother stay outside, in a large fenced area while we are at work, approximately 6 hours a day, 5%BD%A0days/week. We have a very rhythmic schedule that serves them well... We are up between 5:45 and 6:00. We have good morning time and breakfast, then go outside for bathroom and outside play fetch. Around 2:30, I visit for petting and play for about 15-25 minutes. At 6;30 it's inside for dinner and evening family time. Kush is mellow inside and knows the rules of the house. He will bark if he sees a deer or turkey, but will stop when told. Occasionally, a roll of toilet paper will be fiddled with, or a newspaper, but other than that, Kush enjoys playing with his squeaky toys, chewing on antlers and resting In the house. Kush has some challenges that come with his breed. 1. Kush's high prey drive means he needs a strong handler to ensure he knows who is the boss/alpha. If he thinks he can be the boss, he will. 2. He is an 'alarm barker', meaning that if he is alarmed or aware of something or someone outside or at the door, Kush will bark. Speaking to Kush in a soothing, reassuring voice, or distracting him usually works. We have a lot of deer and turkey that wander about! 3. Kush loves to chase cats, and he is very strong! Therefore, a cat free home is necessary. 4. Kush is still learning to stay by my side when off leash. If he is let loose, he will run like the wind! He will not return until he is good and ready, especially if he is chasing something. Kush has not chased a human, but if a human has another animal scent on his/her/they clothing, Kush will want to put his snout there to sniff and sniff, and it is annoying. 5. Kush is protective if unknown guests are on the premises. I am appreciative of it, but his imposing disposition and bark may frighten people. Kush has had obedience training, and the trainer has taken him on the American River bike trail for many walks, and he does very well. I have not been comfortable, as I am not so strong, and a bit on the short side.If you are interested, the trainer is happy to speak with you on Kush's behalf. The reason we need to find a home for Kush is because Kush has raced to our neighbors house to eat their cat food and search for their cat. He will bark his loud bark and be a nuisance. They have a young child in the family and are uncomfortable with Kush's breed. We live out in the country with no perimeter fencing. The law of the land out here is 'if an animal trespasses onto your property, and you feel threatened, you have the right to protect yourself. I do not wish to have Kush become the victim of reaction, but know that is a very real possibility. We have reached out to friends with yards, as well as his wonderful trainer, to see if we can find a new, loving home for Kush. We would love to be able to visit him too. Kush is a loving member of our family, and our wish is for him to be a continued loving family member. It will not serve him to be in an aggressive environment. He wants to do well, and responds well to a firm voice, positive reinforcement and acknowledgement. In return for your kindness, we will deliver Kush to your home with everything he will need. We will provide food for a month, his favorite treats, toys, bed and his favorite pillow. If you think a crate is important, we can offer that as well. Even though Kush is quite large, he really loves to be inside, is well behaved, is full of kisses and kindness for family and friends. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. In gratitude, Eloisa%BD%A0
