She is a 1 year old Lab mix with lots of energy and love. Queenie's hobbies include playing fetch, running through the back yard, long walks, and excited snuggles. Queenie loves attention. She happily climbs into laps for cuddles, and enjoys being around her people, both in the house and outside. She will be a great dog for an active owner or family, and can't wait to meet her forever family! Queenie is crate trained, and mostly house trained. She sometimes gets caught up in playing with her foster fur sister, and forgets to ask to go outside. She knows sit and off, and is working on other commands. She can be left off leash at her foster home as long as someone keeps an eye on her, and she knows to come back when called as long as there isn't a bunny to chase. She would do best with a fenced in yard because of her love of running, although that isn't required. She is great with dogs of all sizes, however her high energy may make her a better companion to a dog who is ready to play as much as she is. She is great with kids; her larger size and love of life means she may occasionally knock them over. Queenie is doing fine with the cat in her foster home. Queenie's life before rescue wasn't so happy, even if she is still full of love for people. She was brought into an emergency vet by her owner who said she left her tied up outside while she went to work. When she came back 8 hours later, something had attacked Queenie. There were lacerations across her face and foot, and her eye needed removed. The owner couldn't afford to pay for the emergency surgery, so the vet office called us. Her owner surrendered her so that she could get the medical attention she so desperately needed. Queenie was so starved for attention that we believe she spent way more time on a chain outside then she did in a house. In addition, she is nervous around men that she doesn't know, and takes some time to warm up to them. She barks and backs up when they approach her. In her foster home, it took Queenie about 4 days to start to trust the male, and before the end of the 2nd week, she was climbing into his lap, giving him kisses, and taking him toys to play with. She is truly becoming a different dog than what she was when we first brought her into the rescue, and we are so excited to watch her continue to blossom. Queenie needs a family who will understand her special circumstances, and will work with her to improve her trust in men and her confidence in herself. A family or owner with previous dog experience is preferred. If you think you could be Queenie's happily-ever-after, fairy tale ending, please send us your application! Queenie is looking forward to meeting you!
