About SKITTLES

Oriental / Egyptian Mau
Age: Kitten
Sex: Male

SKITTLES is a very special guy. He has a lot of everything. He's extremely smart, extremely friendly and social, extremely curious, extremely affectionate and loving, extremely brave but also can be extremely stubborn. He's a high energy little guy...only weighing in at about 7 lbs and is very slight, but he thinks he's a way bigger, stronger boy. He definitely has exotic genes running through him. He is a good fit for someone who has exotic breed experience (Oriental, Bengal, Savannah, etc.). He is just not your average housecat. He absolutely needs a home that has a lot of places for him to explore, spots to go up and climb...and at least another animal or two to be BFFs with. If there are no other animals in a potential new home, or if the animals are very senior and would not be into playing with a young cat, we would have to insist on him leaving with another one of his fellow fosters...he has many friends in his foster home and he would be thrilled to live with any of them. He definitely prefers the ladies and is a ladies man (both with other cats but also people.) But he doesn't dislike boys - his best friend in his foster home is a boy and he loves his foster daddy too. SKITTLES is an alpha. He might be tiny but he's a BIG cat on the inside and he absolutely needs to be the alpha animal in his new home. One of the hardest issues he's had to contend with in his foster home was the addition of a sickly (not contagious) older cat who outranked his newly acquired alpha status. If the new potential home already has an alpha, it would not be a good fit, as there would be a power struggle and SKITTLES would not be happy and content. SKITTLES would do fine in a home with children maybe 6 and up who want a pet to constantly play with...the children would need to be responsible enough to remember to close doors behind them. SKITTLES has spent his entire life indoors only and we will not adopt him out to a home that would willingly let him outside, but he is so curious that he would probably wander off to check out what other adventures he could have. SKITTLES is pretty bored in his 900 square foot foster home that is one story. SKITTLES is better suited to having a bigger home to explore. A home with stairs/multi-levels is a huge plus...as is many cat trees and other appropriate furniture he could use as another level to explore. SKITTLES would be a poor fit in a home that has valuables out on display. If mad, he may knock them down. He knows a lot of English, but he can be stubborn and just get up on things that you may not want him up on. He can be extremely persistent, so a spacious home that is pretty minimalist is the best fit for him. People who have had highly active exotics before would have a good idea of what he needs. SKITTLES loves challenges and will test himself by doing crazy Parkour moves just to see what he can accomplish, or stand for 20 minutes in a room with the Roomba running just to see how long he can withstand the noise...like he's a contestant in Fear Factor. He is very into overcoming almost all fears and will stand alone when all other cats and dogs go running. Despite SKITTLES needing a very particular type of home, he really is worth the trouble. He knows to use 'soft paws' when he touches you. He always retracts his claws and he will usually give you a kiss when you ask him to. He often will do a short stint of making biscuits on you and his claws are retracted throughout. He's a very compassionate soul and he instinctively reads even discreet microexpressions on his foster parents' faces really well. When they are sad, he comes running and tries his best to comfort them. He is also very good about his regular nail trimmings and ear cleanings. He's also a champ when it comes to any yucky meds and basically being handled in general - whether by you or the vet. SKITTLES loves to jump in your lap and snuggle and sleep. He LOVES to greet visitors at the door and follows people and animals around like a dog. He's never shy and will always make the biggest wallflowers feel right at home. He loves to play and he loves to be your best friend and interact with you. He would do best in an active home that understands he has high activity needs. His foster parents raised him since he was 1 month old - when he was a lone kitten left behind at a high kill shelter, and he was on death row, with no mom or brothers or sisters. He was precocious even then and eating on his own...he wasn't much trouble and was ok with long stretches of alone time. They want him placed in the best fitting home possible so he does not wind up back at a shelter or worse. SKITTLES does know baby sign language just as his fellow foster cats do, but if he's feeling justified in whatever he thinks is the most important thing at the moment, he may not listen to you....unless you have a water gun or a spray bottle in hand. SKITTLES was raised with dogs and cats and kittens and loves all of them.
