About Sapphire

Sapphire came to us about 4 months ago and she is a completely different dog from when she first arrived. She was completely overwhelmed and anxious for quite a while but now she is able to relax and let het true personality shine through. She is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever met, more than happy to spend the day cuddled in your lap, though she is also delighted to join you on a jog or a walk in the woods. She loves the beach and exploring new places. It took a few months but she finally relaxed enough to let her playful side emerge and has become a huge fan of the flirt pole. She suffered from horrible separation anxiety whenever she was left alone for more than a few minutes, to the point where she would destroy her crate attempting to escape, even injuring herself, but she is much better now that she had learned she won't be abandoned, safe in the knowledge that her people will be back for her soon. She still cries sometimes when left alone for too long however, and will chew her way out of her kennel if she is alone for more than a few hours. She is a very intelligent dog and gets bored easily, so she needs something to keep her occupied while you're gone. She was highly aggressive when she came here, and would not listen at all if another dog came within 300 feet of her, practically going crazy in her efforts to get them, but she is much better now and can go on walks with other dogs without much of a fuss. She has even made friends with one of the neighbor dogs and she highly enjoys their regular play dates. She still needs supervision when around other animals however, and we are working to curb her very high prey drive. Small animals are just entirely too enticing for her, though she will now sit and stay when told to and watch them from a distance. An ideal home for her would be one where she is the only animal, although she would probably be fine with one other dog if introduced slowly and supervised properly. She absolutely adores people and her little tail is always wagging, and she had the cutest full-body wiggle dance when she gets excited, which is often. She is a very happy little dog and an excellent and sensitive companion, happy just to be with you and by your side. She is very smart and learns new things very quickly. She is always eager to please you and loves showing off her tricks. For the right person who understands her and can work with her unique eccentricities, she will be an ideal dog who will love and adore you with everything she is.
