About Ace

Rottweiler
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Ace is one of the coolest Rottweilers you will ever meet. He is house trained, crate trained, obedience trained. He likes cats and dogs of both sexes. He is very friendly with his people and wants to please you. He makes a good watch dog as well, though that's just a bonus. He was meant to be a companion animal and nothing else. When we first got Ace in Dec 2017 he had a large fiber sarcoma tumor on his front leg. It was not in his bone, just sitting on top of it. We really struggled with how we should treat it. It was causing him no pain and he acted like it wasn't even there. When we did the biopsy we learned that it would be no easy task to care for and treat his leg, because he really did not want us anywhere near it and was not afraid to let us know that. We had to sedate and muzzle him just to change the bandage. First, we tried going in and removing the tumor. Following the procedure, his surgeon said that it was really woven around the muscle there and he was pretty sure that he didn't get all of it out, and he suggested amputation. It broke my heart, but I had to take his leg to save his life, and I didn't want to lose this boy. He is too special. Then I thought that maybe it wouldn't be so bad if we could get him a prosthesis, but I didn't realize he needed to have 60% of his leg in order for a prosthesis to work for him and his surgeon didn't realize that either and left him with his shoulder to his elbow, but not enough to get him a fake leg. But the cutest thing ever is if you tell him to shake, he will try to shake with his nub. Following the surgery to remove his front leg, Ace didn't skip a beat. He still had a smile from ear to ear and hopped around going about his daily routine. It's like he knew that his life was saved in exchange for his leg, and he was totally fine with the decision. Now he is wondering what lucky family he is going to spend that rest of his life with. Don't pass him up just because he is disabled. And if you meet him you have to promise that you won't tell him that either!
