About Rumor

Adoption Fee: $275
Australian Shepherd / Border Collie
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Meet ASF Rumor (but we've been calling her Quinn), an Aussie/border collie plus maybe something else with gorgeous tail. This beautiful girl is about 3 years old. She loves belly rubs and doing anything you want to do. She can chill for hours or go for hikes for hours. She is quiet in her crate, house trained, loves to be brushed and only chews on her toys. Here's her backstory: She came from a hording situation and was removed by the authorities. She probably wasn't abused but may not have had much socialization. We can see the effects of this in her quick startle in new situations and her cautious demeanor as we expose her to new things. Her next stop was an adoption by a single mom whose special needs son had communication issues. Alas, this woman had never had a dog, let alone a 48 lb. herding dog. There was no training or clear direction and Rumor gave low warning growls at the son and barked at him. She was brought back to another shelter where the staff there called the ASF rep for Virginia. We have yet to hear her bark or vocalize at all. For a sensitive dog who's been in flux for almost 3 months she's remarkably resilient. While shy at first, she asks for your attention very quickly. People are her companion of choice, enamored of both men and women, friendly to all humans she's met. We haven't had any kids over yet but we suspect supervised dog-savvy kids would be fine in a short period of time. Rumor and our 11 month old miniature aussie play chase and tumble beautifully. She is somewhat reactive to our two older dogs when she is on lead, clearly not wanting them too close to 'her human' (whomever is holding the leash). She also tries to herd them away from people when she is off lead. But she corrects quickly with a verbal tone of displeasure. This is a work in progress and is improving as she gets more comfortable. What she really wants is someone to belong to forever and ever. She will be absolutely amazing for the right person or family. Give her 6 months of consistency, good leadership and clear rules (plus love, training, fun, and new experiences) and then you'll see the dog she really is. Because she is so ready to be with her forever person we will consider early meet and greets with dog-experienced potential adopters. She will be fine with another dog if that dog is easy-going and confident, but going solo with her person is also fine.
