About Penny

Adoption Fee: $50
Treeing Walker Coonhound
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Penny is precious. She is very loving and affectionate and so badly wants to please. There is nothing but love in her soulful brown eyes. She enjoys long walks that allow her to sniff to her heart's content. She is not 100% leash trained, but with a harness, she does well. She is in need of training and direction. She responds well to a firm, gentle voice. She does not care for loud noises or voices. Penny has been with me about a year and a half. She was not in good shape when I found her. I want her future to be better. I would love to keep her forever, but I have a very full plate and other pets that came before her. I want her to be in a family that she is part of forever. I want her to always feel safe and know that she is loved and cherished. Introductions to other dogs or anyone should be done slowly. With dog introductions, she will either take to them immediately or depending on the signals she's receiving from the other dog, will initially growl, but if given a little space and carefully supervised, will be fine. Just as with humans, there is not always an immediate connection or none at all. I know my dogs and their personalities and so never leave them alone unsupervised. I have never seen her around a cat, but she likes to chase small animals like rabbits, squirrels, and chipmunks, so I think she would probably feel the same about cats. I have never seen her with children. That being said, I've also never seen her show any signs of aggression towards people. She is a hugger and I've noticed that when she jumps up to give me a hug she is super gentle with where the paws go. I was actually taken back by it because it was a conscious thought to be careful on her part. I think Penny would do best in a home with another hound as a companion or at least another dog. She has friends here. She loves to play with Babygirl, our Collie/ Husky mix and Gracie, our Staffordshire Terrier. Because of her size, she can be a little rough when playing, so I recommend a heartier, medium size dog at least. I keep the smaller ones away from her for their safety. Being that she's a hound and will follow her nose, a fenced yard at least 5 feet high is recommended. To adopt Penny, I require all family/household members as well as any pets come for a meet and greet. If that goes well, I will email you an application and a contract. I would like a vet reference and 2 personal references and a home check is also a must. I am looking for an open adoption meaning that I would like to connect on FB to see how she's doing and I would also like to be able to come see her ( with permission) of course, to make sure that she's doing well. Should the adoption not go well, I want her back. I will return the adoption fee and pay you for any vet care she's received. I do plan on having her spayed shortly. She is not yet microchipped, but if I have it done, I will also require that I stay listed on the microchip as an emergency contact just in case.
