About Julia Child (FIV+)

Adoption Fee: $75
Domestic Cat
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Hello there! My name is Julia Child, and I'm a loving, mellow, and easy-going medium-haired tortoiseshell gal with big celadon-green eyes who was born about June 2016. I'm named after the famed California chef because I, too, am a gourmand, i.e. I LOVE FOOD! I'm an affectionate kitty who dispenses head butts in exchange for ear scratches. In fact, any attention you give me is rewarded with my turning on my purr motor. I've had a lot packed into my short life. I had been living as a stray in a ghetto apartment complex where the resident feral, intact tomcat had impregnated me three times! (That's probably how I turned up FIV-positive when I was tested.) After the third litter, one of the caring cat-loving residents decided that I'd had enough pregnancies, and she arranged for a really kind lady to get me spayed as well as whisked off, along with my tiny new kittens, to my foster home. Ahhh! Life is so different in a safe, secure indoor home with plenty of food and water bowls, cozy beds, and air conditioning! I still have to pinch myself to realize that there are plenty of groceries set before me, so mealtime continues to be one of my favorite parts of the day. I love it here in my foster home with my gray tabby daughter Charlotte Bronte and never want to return to my hardscrabble beginnings. I'm a natural perfectionist with my litter box manners, so no worries there! Since I never had much when I was little, I don't have much interest in toys. I'd just rather chill out all day and purr while I'm beside my loving human companion. I'm considered a special-needs kitty because of my testing FIV-positive, but believe me, it's not a death sentence. Gosh, I'm hoping that someone with a FIV-positive cat wants to adopt me to keep her company. Or I can be an only cat. Or, believe it or not, most vets would agree that it's safe for a spayed FIV-positive cat like me to be around friendly other cats. However, initial introductions should be carefully supervised. Let me explain to you a little more about FIV. One of the tissues in which FIV lives is the salivary glands, so the most common route of infection is a deep bite wound from a FIV-positive cat to another cat. It is very rare for cats to get FIV from just being around infected cats, from sharing food bowls and litter boxes, or from a person's touching a FIV-positive cat and then touching a FIV-negative cat. There are no specific signs of FIV infection. FIV-positive cats have a weaker immune system so they are more prone to getting upper respiratory infections, ringworm, and dental disease. Other than that, FIV-positive cats tend to live normal lives and have a normal length of life. So I'm looking for a soft-hearted and compassionate soul who will not be deterred by the FIV-positive diagnosis and who actually thrives on giving special-needs kitties like me a wonderful home. What's stopping you from arranging to meet me? Maybe we can exchange my butting you with my head if you scratch my ears. It could be love at first sight. I'm 100% ready to live the good life for the rest of my life in your furever home. Julia Child is updated on shots, spayed, dewormed, FeLV negative, and ready for her indoor-only home. No de-clawing permitted. Her adoption fee is $75, cash or check payable to Buster's Friends.
