About FOSTER TO ADOPT AVA

Meet AVA, a pretty 6-8 month old 33lb, Tri-color, Female Hound/Herding mix who is super shy but responds to gentle displays of affection and kindness. Shelter volunteers said 'She is one of the most scared dogs I have seen in a long time. She REALLY needs to be able to trust someone. She will NOT walk on a leash at all, she just freezes when we try to get her to move. She had NO reaction with other dogs, including the shelter managers dog, who we brought out to meet her nose to nose. She would not stand up in her kennel when I went in to get her, but did not back away either. She let me scratch her ears & LOVED her chin scratched, so I think that is what got me in. I had to carry her to the eval room! Once there, on the scale, she only moved when the cat enticed her a little. That was the most reaction we got from her. After that, I had to pull her to me and went about rubbing her chin again. She finally allowed me to rub her belly while she laid with her head in my lap. We did that for about 3 minutes trying to get her to relax a bit before taking her picture, but moving her was fairly traumatic for her as well. She is really a sweet girl, but will need someone that can go slow with her, and maybe has another dog that is good with teaching others the ropes, that can pull her out of her shell. Ava is new to rescue so there will be more about her soon. If you would like to foster or adopt her, please let us know. AVA is spayed, heart worm negative and up to date on age appropriate vaccines.
