About Sassy

Mastiff
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Sweet, silly Sassafras! This lovely Cane Corso girl knows her forever family is out there somewhere. and Miss Sassy wants her new people to know these 10 things about her: 1. I was treated terribly before I came to rescue. The people at my old home would lock me in the house for weeks with just a pile of food, or tie me to the front porch for days, while they went off and did other things. I was always hungry and always hurting. I'm very lucky that my awful owners had responsible neighbors who didn't stop calling the dog police until they came to get me. 2. When I got to the shelter, I was very scared and I got very sick. I acted like a complete jerk to almost everyone, but the Bullpen saw right through my act and asked me to come to the sanctuary. 3. I am learning every day that people are good and that I can trust them. My foster mom says I am making wonderful progress and I should be proud of myself, even if I am still a total grump when I meet new people. 4. When I see people that I know, I turn into a super wiggle-butt snuggle monster. I can't help myself. I just want to be around them and play with toys with them and be petted. I'm definitely one of the most affectionate dogs at the sanctuary. 5. When I meet other dogs through the fence, I wag my tail at them, and I think I could happily live with an easy-going, big male dog if we were properly introduced. Because I was so sick at the shelter, I wasn't allowed to meet any other dogs, so I'm not sure how I feel about little and medium sized pups. 6. My kennel at the shelter was close to the pen where they keep goats and chickens, and I was generally oblivious. When I see birds and squirrels and the occasional cat here at the sanctuary, I'm interested for a few seconds, but then I forget about them. 7. My ideal home would be with an adults-only family that is willing to work with me on building confidence, and that doesn't have many visitors to the house. New people are scary to me, and when I'm afraid, I am not my best self. 8. I am really good on a leash, and will go into a crate, even if I don't like it. I know how to use a dog door and will sit when you tell me. I do, however, have a bad habit of jumping up to get your attention, and I need my forever family to keep working with me to curb the behavior. 9. My back end is a little funny. There, I said it. It's really only noticeable when I sit down, but it's hard to miss. The veterinarian took x-rays of my legs and pelvis but couldn't find anything that would really explain it. I have no trouble getting around, but the Bullpen thought it was best to start me on a daily anti-inflammatory, which I take without complaint. 10. I am current on vaccinations, microchipped, and spayed. I've started heartworm treatment, and will come with all the medicine needed to complete it at my new home. Fill out our Adoption Application, located at bullpenrescue.org under the 'work with us' tab. **We highly recommend that our potential adopters fill out an online application as soon as possible, as it greatly expedites the process of finding the right dog for your situation. Our dogs are available for adoption nationwide but preference is given to adopters willing to do an in-person meeting. Please understand that our dogs are not adopted on a first-come, first-serve basis, but rather we strive for a 'perfect placement' so we know that they will not be failed again.**
