About Wiley

The very first thing that Wiley the Bearded Collie/Border Collie mix wants to make clear is that he's a love. In this photo, you're not aware of the gorgeous silver streaks that run through his soft as cotton, non-shedding coat - with grooming, care and great nutrition (a daily salmon oil supplement is an excellent choice for longevity and coat care), Wiley's coat will not only be silky soft..but shining with good health. Everything is new to Wiley...he sniffs shyly at an outstretched hand...and then very slowly and carefully approaches for a loving touch. And then after Wiley gathers his courage, he snuggles close. He loves to lie next to his favorite people on the couch for some TV time and then on the bed as he sleeps through the night. Wiley is so happy there beside his family because his human relationships are so important to him. We have to remember that Wiley came from a very tough and challenging Texas shelter. As a result of unkind handling and harsh conditions, Wiley is initially a bit shy. Once he's given some time and space..and assured that all is well, he becomes the sweetest and most loving guy ever! Wiley ultimately wants what every living being desires more then anything... a home and a family who loves him like crazy! He returns these loving sentiments to his family a thousand times over. This 18 - 24 months old, 48 lb guy truly lights up when he feels like he's done a good job... some serious hugging and kind words will send him over the moon. In this spirit of great behavior, we feel strongly that Wiley's adopter bring him to positive reinforcement (force free) group obedience classes. These classes provide structure to learn commands and understand his people as his leaders. They will enable Wiley to accompany his family out in the community with excellent behavior. Farfel's Rescue is happy to provide a list of positive reinforcement trainers in your area. We envision Wiley with active retirees or a younger family with older kids who desire a very handsome and loving dog as a family member and best friend. Wiley would be so excited to spend his days in the company of his favorite people. Being a herding dog mix, Wiley loves physical exercise as well as mental stimulation and is far too sensitive to spend long hours alone while his family works full-time outside of the home. Wiley will be overjoyed to hike and snowshoe along gorgeous Colorado trails and paths..enjoying the sunshine and time with his people. Wiley's basic nature is to be positive and very joyful once comfortable. He's therefore so much fun to spend time with! We've requested that Wiley be neutered prior to his transport to Denver. We're not optimistic that this will occur due to too many dogs and not enough vets in this industrial area of New Mexico. In fulfilling our commitment to zero population growth, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for neutering and a microchip if our Denver vet is used. Wiley will be arriving on transport in Denver in early to mid-July (we update when information is available). Applications are currently being accepted for this sweet and cuddly best friend.
