About Betty-ADOPTION PENDING

Lab / Golden Retriever
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Our sweet and beautiful Betty couldn't be more loving no matter how hard she tried. Betty is a 9 - 12 month old, approximately 45 lb Labrador Retriever/Golden Retriever...most likely with a number of other breeds in her makeup. The vets had different opinions on Betty's DNA..one thought Lab/Golden, the other perhaps Lab/Shepherd/Golden Whatever her mix, she's a very sweet and super-smart girl. The Retriever & Shepherd mixes have grown in popularity tremendously over the past few years. It makes perfect sense in that they're known for their great temperaments, loyalty and super- intelligence. Farfel's rescues many Retriever as well as Shepherd mixes that are in need of our help with confidence they will blossom into great family members. Betty has all these wonderful traits and was described by her New Mexico foster mom as sweet and energetic with a strong love and loyalty to her people! Betty was adopted as a puppy by her relinquishing family with the goal of her being a service dog. They watched her grow into a super-smart and playful puppy who they thought would be perfect for the job simply because she's very sweet and intelligent. While their intentions were honorable, their follow through with training didn't occur. Without the training experience, it's unrealistic to expect any dog to just naturally have the skills to succeed in a service capacity. Betty was relinquished to our rescuer because she's an energetic puppy that didn't have have any guidance regarding appropriate behavior. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to match Betty to a family that doesn't commit to training classes. We feel that she has so much to give to a family that understands her nature. Betty will be a gem (with her great temperament and desire to please) to a home that understands her natural gifts of the ultimate in love and loyalty to her family. Once bonded, Betty will blossom with positive reinforcement (force free) training into a loyal, loving and well-behaved best-friend. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of force-free trainers in your area. We've received the following information from Betty's New Mexico foster mom: Betty is a gorgeous (really, truly stunning!) Lab/Shepherd and Golden Retriever mix..of course just a guess as dogs are such a combo of many wonderful things :-) She's just naturally great with people..as a matter of fact, they're absolutely her passion! I don't mean to say she doesn't enjoy other dogs, she does but is intimidated by larger rambunctious canines. She does really well with my fat Dachshund and mini Poodle and loves to play in the yard and have fun. But in the end, it's her people that are the love of her life. It's really this deep love of her family that makes this dog very special. She will be the most loyal and loving family companion...but it is with training that these special qualities will be channelled in a positive direction. Her bonding will know no end with her handler in training class. She displays the special traits that we look for in a therapy dog. With involvement in training classes, this dog will absolutely shine! I feel like Betty has the physical resemblance to a Golden and Lab, but has the loyalty and deep love that is shared by a Shepherd. It's that element that makes a well-trained Shepherd a gift among dogs! Betty is completely house-trained, crate-trained with a bit of complaining and a love bug with those that she's spent a bit of time with. Betty wouldn't be happy spending long hours alone%BD'%BD|she is far too people-oriented to be happy with that. An active retiree or a person who works either part-time or from home would be great. Betty would love the friendship, companionship and consistency of those relationships. Being a young dog, she'll also learn that she's loved, cared for and respected. This is a lesson that results in a happy and confident adult dog. Betty will be up to date on her vetting/vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to adopting out healthy dogs. Farfel's has requested that Betty be spayed prior to her transport to Colorado. If this doesn't occur, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for her spay and microchip if our Denver vet is used. Betty will be arriving on transport in Denver in late June...we'll update the exact date when information is finalized. Applications are currently being accepted for this sweet and devoted best friend and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Betty, please be sure to fill out our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this veery deserving girl. We're sorry, but in most circumstances, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue.
