Nelly could be that dream come true best friend for an active family with older kids or active retirees who enjoy spending their time with a cottony-soft and very sweet and engaging companion. Once comfortable, Nelly will return 100% of your kindness and caring with all the love that lives inside of her. The herding dog breeds are a a perfect choice for those with who are searching for a super- smart, loyal and very loving and engaging family dog. Nelly's story is all too common in her very close call to being euthanized in a scary New Mexico shelter....but who could ignore her sweet and kind manner and desire to bond with those that understand all she's been through and allow her the time and space to fall in love. Nelly's engaging nature is just waiting to be enjoyed and appreciated. Her very sweet and kind temperament leads her to ultimately become a friend to every dog-lover she meets. She is such a wonderful being...we think she represents the best qualities of the herding dog breeds. Nelly seems to be successfully working through the feelings around the lack of love that made up her early life. At about 9 months old and 36 lbs , Nelly is a fuzzy ball of goodness that loves to please - the happier her family is with her behavior, the more she shines with her accomplishments. We would love to see Nelly in a home that includes her in family time and activities...she's appropriately playful and entertaining and would thrive in a family that truly loves her and considers her a very important family member. Nelly would be a wonderful companion for active, fun-loving retirees who have the time and desire to be best friends with a truly sweet young dog. She would also fit in well with a younger family that works part-time or from the home and loves to have a best companion. Nelly doesn't require another dog to be happy if her people are very present...but does enjoy her canine relationships with playful and gentle dogs..untested with cats. Nelly will do well with anyone who's invested in spending time with their pup. She's so pleasant and portable that she can be a part of any adventure....it can be a neighborhood walk, a long hike, a visit with friends, a car ride on vacation or just an afternoon spending time together plopped down on the couch - all of this would speak to Nelly's sweetness, gentle personality and kind/social ways. Nelly has a cottony-soft and very shiny blue merle coat that will require a commitment to periodic baths/brushing and great nutrition. A daily salmon oil supplement is an excellent recommendation for longevity and coat care. Nelly will be up to date on her vetting/vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to adopting out healthy pups. Farfel's has requested that Nelly be spayed prior to her transport to Colorado. If this doesn't occur, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Nelly's spay and microchip if our Denver vet is used. Nelly is in a foster home in the Denver area.
