About Aslan

Adoption Fee: 175
Turkish Van
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Aslan is a beautiful white with orange Turkish Van. He was born November 2016. As many lucky kitty parents of white and orange males can attest to, there is something very loving, easy going and special about cats with this color combination. Aslan's family is absolutely heartbroken about having to give him up. Due to a divorce and children going off to college, there is no one able to provide him with the care, attention and love he needs and deserves. Aslan was rescued from a shelter when he was a kitten, and breeders and enthusiasts have pretty much confirmed that he is a Turkish Van, although his purity isn't known. Aslan knows commands, like 'sit' and 'up'. If you enjoy having your cat jump up into your arms for a hug, you just need to utter the word 'up' and voila, you've caught yourself a Turkish Van! Aslan grew up in an adult and teenage household, so his temperament with young children is not known. He has a lot of energy - he is still almost a baby since it takes three to five years for Turkish Van to reach full maturity. According to the Cat Fanciers' Association, the Turkish Van is a large and agile cat of substantial strength. They are very intelligent as well as curious and make very rewarding companions in the right home. The breed is a healthy one and the unique coat does not lend itself to matting, so they require little grooming. The coat lacks an undercoat and has a very unique cashmere-like texture that makes it water-resistant. This brings us to another interesting feature of this breed - they love water and in their native region they have been termed 'the Swimming Cats.' His current family gave him a bath last year which he didn't mind. He is also fascinated with his water fountain or if water is poured into a bowl. He will sometimes stick his little paws right into the bowl. When you first bring Aslan to your home, expect him to be shy in his new environment. He can get startled by loud noises. He seems to prefer the ladies, perhaps he had a bad encounter with a man before. However, with patience and loving laps to offer, he will warm up to men too. Aslan has been exposed to a dog, which didn't go too well, so we don't know how he would do with a cat friendly dog. He and the resident 17 year old female cat don't get along too well, but that is most likely because at 17 she is way too dignified and uninterested to play around with a young, strong and exuberant male. His family is hoping for a wonderful, caring adopter who will equally treasure this boy. Their ideal adopter is home a fair portion of the day to both play with him and snuggle, as those are his two favorite past times. Aslan is microchipped, was seen by his vet about 7 months ago, and has no litterbox or other behavioral issues.
