About Gracie

Gracie is seeking a new foster to help her in her journey to a forever home. We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for new foster families! Gracie is currently fostered in Bradenton, FL (Manatee County). Anyone who likes smalls will know they can be eccentric. Gracie is a 7-pound young chiweenie who thinks she is a St Bernard. She came from a hoarding situation and was semi-feral when we got her. It takes her a bit to warm up to people, and when she does it will be on her terms. Her foster family is working on that. Gracie loves to snuggle with you at night, but during the day she remains elusive. She comes running to greet you at the door when you come in, but if you try to pet her she dances away. She loves other dogs but it takes a day to get the Gracie seal of approval. She will run and jump on big dogs to get them to play with her, and amazingly most big dogs love her! She is fast as lightning and if she would warm up to people could be an awesome performance prospect. She has a lot of toy drive. She does fine in a crate but she also is fine out of a crate once she knows her terrain. She does not come when called, and will not eat if you are standing there. Her fosters can now get about a foot away from her when she is eating and she won't run away. Once she snuggles with you, you can see her relax with her eyes closed. After that you can trim her nails and pet her all over. She is not aggressive in any way but she gets rigid when you pick her up at first. Whatever happened to her in her former life must have been pretty bad. That is all behind her now. We are actively seeking a person that can work with her to bring her out more - someone experienced with chiweenies or smalls. She is quite the dog, and has many more attributes than I can talk about here. It is time for her to move to the next step in her rehab. If you are interested in a project dog, this would be your girl. I have no doubt she will reward you with much love and will be a dynamite girl. Other dogs in the home are preferred, and a fenced yard will be required for her. Gracie is spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and preventives, heartworm negative and microchipped.
