About Charlie

Adoption Fee: $50
German Shepherd mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Their Story Charlie and Oscar were found at 6-7 months old (on October 7th 2017) together, starving in the woods near our house. They were skin and bones and had massive patches of fur missing. Crawling with fleas. Took them to our vet, where both were diagnosed with five different type of intestinal worms. She indicated they met the normal criteria for an abandonment case, and said he and his brother had been surviving on their own for about six weeks. Charlie was dying of parvo and giardia and Oscar was suspected to also have been exposed. We posted signs and left mailers in mailboxes per legal requirements, but we didn't receive any responses. After months of recovery, both dogs are happy, healthy, and have recovered fully from all aliments - you'd never know they were at death's door just a few months ago! Why They Need A New Home They need a home where they have lots of opportunities to hang out and play - although I were able to rescue them from starvation, provide medical support, socialization, training, and play, over the long term - I can't give them the attention and stimulation that they deserve. Both are very smart boys, and although they need lots of interaction and play, they're also content to lay by you and play with a ball, just as long as you're there. My other dog is lazy and independent, so she doesn't need the same level of human interaction that Oscar and Charlie need. Features: 'ۢ Half Brothers from the same litter 'ۢ About 12 months old, boisterous, lively, and full of fun 'ۢ Get along well with dogs and children 'ۢ Love to follow you everywhere asking for attention. 'ۢ LOVE playing fetch, chase, keep away, tug of war. Oscar does a great 'drop it' and usually sits to wait for the toss. 'ۢ Very playful with other polite dogs. 'ۢ Heel nicely on leash with a flat collar - great for hiking and on off-leash romps where legal. 'ۢ Take corrections very easily - gentle, sensitive boys. 'ۢ Attended training classes held Canine Champs at PetSense in Covington. 'ۢ Know 'heel', 'sit', 'stay', 'down', 'drop it', and 'OMG don't eat that!' 'ۢ Love walks and hikes in public places, including stores that allow dogs, like Lowe's and Home Depot. 'ۢ Both Walk well with other dogs, and both meet and pass by strange dogs politely. 'ۢ Both Love car rides, but Charlie is sometimes is initially reluctant to go into the vehicle if he's been to the vet recently :) 'ۢ Both love sleeping in the bed with you! They have the superpower to magically expand from a compact boy to a massive, bed-hogging St Bernard. 'ۢ Oscar is not much of a chewer, but occasionally surprises you, so crating him when you can't supervise him is a good idea until both of you get used to each other. 'ۢ Charlie likes chewing - he'll use a chew toy happily. If a chew toy is not available, he will locate an alternative object. 'ۢ Crate trained - but they whine occasionally. Will probably initially whine more than usual when adjusting to a new home. Both happily bark when they hear you get home. 'ۢ Also will bravely bark at scary strangers, postal delivery folks, and squirrels. 'ۢ Treated for flea and tick with Vectra 3D, and for heartworm preventative (HeartGuard) monthly, per vet recommendations. 'ۢ Their vaccines are current - you can get printouts from his vet, Dr. Miller, of Miller Veterinary Services in Conyers.
