About Sadie

Treeing Walker Coonhound mix
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

I am an active duty Air Force member stationed in Biloxi, looking for a home for my hound Sadie. I am preparing to move mid-July (my 6th move in 11 years), and am sad that Sadie will not be able to come with me. She has been able to move with me or stay with friends and parents during previous deployments and stations where I could not have her; however, my next move (and the I anticipate the one following) will prevent me from being able to bring her along, and my parents' situation is such that they will not be able to keep her either. I love Sadie - she is a rescue who I got in Boulder, Colorado after she was found wandering the streets emaciated, cold, and poorly cared for in Logan, Utah. I believe Sadie is a treeing walker coonhound (she is probably some sort of mix, but most resembles that breed), and her age is estimated somewhere around 9-11 years old -- I have had her for the last 8. At this stage in her life, she spends most of her day curled up on her chair in the living room. She does struggle with some behavioral issues such as anxiety during thunderstorms and fireworks shows, and she does use her strong hound lungs when she sees other dogs and other people. I have been able to walk and run with her on leash over the years, though she is also quite stubborn, as hounds can often be (I have used a gentle leader with her for this). Sadie is current on her shots, in generally good health (she is starting to walk and move more like an older dog), and receives monthly flea/tick/heartworm oral medication. I currently have Sadie on a limited ingredient diet since that seems to help prevent skin irritation or itchiness. Sadie currently lives in a home with a cat and has previously lived with multiple other dogs. Initially introducing them was challenging but only for the first couple hours. She has become great pals with the other animals we have had in our life. Sadie would be well-stocked wherever she goes next - she would come with a couple large bags of food, several months' of flea/tick/heartworm medication, her records, collapsible and hard-sided kennels if desired, and some odds and ends such as leashes and collars, shampoo, and treats. I wish that I could keep Sadie, but for the foreseeable future, it won't be possible for me. I am hopeful she will find a wonderful home where she can chill out with you on the couch or bask in the sunshine.
