About Silas

Sometimes the best dogs are deaf. Noisy kids? No problem! Lots of traffic on your sidewalk? No problem! Not much for conversation? No problem! Silas is so laid back and even tempered. You will get to enjoy his company without all the extra stuff that comes with hearing dogs. Silas is approximately 2 years old and he is house trained. He's learned that his crate is a nice place to sleep. He loves to be with you and share in everything you are doing. If you're cooking, he'll supervise. Want to watch tv? Silas will be sure to snuggle up with you to watch, too. This smart boy is very trainable and despite being deaf 'listens' very well. So far he's learned sit, down, stay, here and that he has to sit for his food. Silas is a large goofy puppy at 75 lbs. As a giant puppy Silas needs a lot of structure and rules to keep him a well behaved dog. He has stayed in 2 foster homes where he was given a lot of structure and has done very well in all areas of living in a home. His deafness is not a problem for communication and many times you won't even remember he's deaf. That is until you try to call him to you. It is highly recommended that Silas's new family takes him straight to obedience training to help establish their leadership and create good communication between all members. Although Silas has played very well with other dogs at his foster homes, at dog parks, and many large dog events, it has been found that there are some dogs he doesn't do well with. Silas doesn't mind visiting small children but it seems he doesn't care to live with them . His new family can't have small children. He is looking for a family who will appreciate his good-natured personality and that can understand despite seemingly calm and collected he is quite nervous in new situations. Silas has been adopted and returned 4 times and now he is having a harder time adjusting to new situations. He needs a committed family to take things super slow with him and create a routine to help him feel more confident that this next adoption is his absolute last.
