About Loki

Adoption Fee: $300
Great Dane
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

PARTIAL BIO: From experience, we know Loki does well with most dogs. He has been introduced to a variety of dogs with positive results. An introduction with a cat was also positive. With that said, all interactions should be monitored until a relationship has been established with any other dogs. Since Loki is still very much a puppy, and doesn't appear to have had adult dog corrections early on, he doesn't always understand what a 'correction' by another dog means. In Loki's perspective, a corrective gesture from another dog is code for 'play'. Loki has been in our home for over four months now. He has been allowed to play freely with our 116lb, female, Cane Corso. We continue to monitor their play and encourage appropriate interactions while correcting those which could lead to an altercation. All in all, these two look forward to playing several times a day and have established a style of rough housing. Loki loves all people, men, woman, and children. He has been tested with children ages 4, 6, and 13 years old. The two younger ones were not equipped to deal with Loki's size and 'mouth control'. Due to this, a household with small children will not be considered. He would not purposefully 'hurt' anyone, let alone a child; but we have to consider his age, activity level and size. Putting Loki in a home with small children would not be beneficial for anyone. Children aged 13 and older will be allowed; children aged 10 - 13 will be considered. ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS: Loki likes to lay in the sun, roam the fence line and just enjoy the outdoors but his recall is NOT solid. Based on his history of bolting and being 'at large' for extended periods of time; a physical fence is required. Invisible fences, tie outs and cables will not be allowed, ever. By no means will Loki be an outdoor only dog. He must be considered an indoor dog with outdoor access/play time. The ideal adoptive home would include space large enough for Loki to lie down and relax, without being stepped on. An appropriate sized dog crate/kennel and dog beds must also be available to him. Indoor/Outdoor access using a dog door would be a bonus but not required. Loki will thrive in an environment which will stimulate his mind in addition to his body. He doesn't require a lot when it comes to the type of attention, but he has shown progress when given the opportunity to 'think'. We have found that he would do best in a home where he isn't left alone for more than 6 hours at a time. It may be different as he matures, but for now, he really does need more human interaction and socialization with the public. He loves car rides and will be a great travel companion when allowed. Lastly, Loki needs someone who understands that he WILL lean against you any chance he gets. He may paw or kick you in the legs, face and head if you're not careful. He will give you kisses when you least expect them. He is strong and will continue to increase strength as he matures. It is absolutely imperative that Loki is set up for success by providing guidance. As with any new dog, an acclimation period of 30 days should be expected in addition to continued training. Adoption is chosen based on Loki's best interest and not the order in which we receive applications. We would prefer to keep him closer due to our home inspection and overnight trial requirements. However, applicants within a reasonable distance will be considered. If you have any questions regarding the process please use the email address provided below. We will do our best to answer the email within 72 hours. Additional pictures can be found in his Facebook Album. All pertinent information has been provided in this bio.
