About Joey-ADOPTION PENDING

Pomeranian / Shetland Sheepdog
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

The very first thing that Joey the Pomeranian/Sheltie mix wants to make clear is that he's a love. In these photos, you're not aware of the silky and shining tricolor coat with the whitest of white streaks running through it. It is with grooming, care and great nutrition that Joey's coat will continue to blossom with good health. Everything is new to Joey...his adorable little nose sniffs shyly at an outstretched hand...and then an ear to ear smile if it's a loving touch. And then before you know it, he is next to you on the couch or better yet, on a welcoming lap. He's so happy there because his human (and canine) relationships are so important to him. This 2 - 3 year old, 14 lb Pomeranian/Sheltie mix truly lights up when he feels likes he's done a good job... some serious hugging and kind words will send him over the moon. In this spirit of great behavior, Joey is working on mastering his house skills. Joey's foster mom has the following to say about this very sweet guy: Joey is doing great. He's still a young guy who just needs patience and love.. and he blossoms. I sit with him and we talk about what a wonderful pup he is and what a great future he has to look forward to...I'm not kidding that I think he understands! Just a tiny bit shy initially (but he should be after what he's been through)...and then the sweetest love! Joey is so kind and cuddly... belly rubs and treats also are a gift to this dog who has never had this kind of nurturing. Joey really enjoys (and even loves) my 2 dogs and they all have the greatest time playing in my yard. Joey is very respectful of them. I was very pleasantly surprised at the level of his respect and gentle nature - when they tell him they have had enough play time, Joey backs off and keeps himself busy in a positive way. You would also expect a young Pom/Sheltie mix to be a bit crazy with lots of energy..this isn't the case with Joey. He has exactly the right amount of energy. He's so responsive..if he jumps on me, I just have to say no and he responds. He also learns a general command in about 2 minutes..no kidding. It must be about the natural intelligence (and inherent great personalities) of these Pom-type dogs. I actually think Joey is somewhat calm for a younger guy. He loves to play (once comfortable), run and beginnings of fetch...but then loves to cuddle equally. His temperament is really developing! I just have to walk into the room and glance at him...it's head to toe waggy tail and huge smile. He is such a sweet pup - anyone who welcomes Joey into their home is truly getting a gem of a dog! Joey's SUMMARY - Joey is such a people dog. He enjoys quiet kids of all ages (no tail-pulling please) but they definitely must be very gentle and handle him kindly. We envision Joey with active retirees or a family with a bit older kids who want a beautiful and sweet dog as a family member and best companion. He would be so excited to spend his days in the company of his family. Being a a Pom/Sheltie mix (or so the vets say), Joey loves physical exercise as well as mental stimulation. He would be a natural in positive reinforcement group obedience classes. He would love the challenge and is so smart and wanting to please..he would excel. I know that Farfel's includes a list of approved force-free trainers in their adoption packet. Joey would also be overjoyed to walk or hike along Colorado paths..enjoying the sunshine and time with his people. His nature, while it can be initially a bit shy, quickly becomes very joyful and his silly and fun nature takes over. This guy's a gift of love for a kind and committed family! We've requested that Joey be neutered prior to his transport to Denver. We're not optimistic that this will occur due to too many dogs and not enough vets in this industrial area of New Mexico. In fulfilling our commitment to zero population growth, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for neutering and a microchip for Joey if our Denver vet is used. Joey will be arriving on transport in Denver in mid-June (we'll update as soon as information is available). Applications are currently being accepted for this extremely sweet and cuddly best friend. An application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Joey, please be sure to fill out our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving guy. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue.
