About Ginger

Young female bulldog mix possibly around 1 year old or so, abandoned near Cleveland Road in Colquitt. We have not had anyone come forward to claim her. Checked for microchip and she does not have one. Not good with cats or other dogs. Needs to be an only dog home unless you have the right dog and the right home. Unfortunately because of these traits she has to stay on a tie out since we have nowhere else to keep her and we have multiple other pets and livestock. I do not like long term tie out for multiple reasons so she really needs a new home soon. She does have water, shelter, and food so she is being taken care of. We have not tested her with children. She does however walk well on a leash and rides calmly in a vehicle. She loves people although she is a little nervous, but can you blame her? The poor girl was born with no chance in the world. She has gained weight well in the past couple of weeks. Her adoption fee will be $125 to cover most of her vet costs (spay at the low cost clinic and vaccines). We will hopefully get her in with the low cost spay/neuter clinic and for vaccinations sometime soon but since we aren't exactly a rescue receiving donations here and money doesn't grow on trees, it will be a few weeks unless she has an adopter come forward. We don't know her heartworm status at this time. She does not have a microchip. She needs to be on heartworm prevention. A dog can be infested with heartworms from just one mosquito bite. Most dogs over 1 or 2 years old not on prevention have been heartworm positive when I've had them tested, and it's a potentially fatal disease when left untreated. So the sooner she's tested and started on prevention the better. Heartguard is one of the cheaper options and can be purchased for approx $10 per month at our vet office, or a years worth of pills can be purchased for approx $90 via valley vet or other online veterinary supply stores with a vet scrip.
