About Leo

Leo is a wonderful, seven year old, Beagle mix. Leo was surrendered to a shelter by the only family he ever knew. The family took good care of him, but like some other dogs with floppy ears, Leo had repeated ear infections. They took him to the vet often for them until it was clear that he needed more than just antibiotics and eardrops. They could not afford the treatment he needed and they hoped that someone would adopt him or rescue him that could help him. That is where we stepped in. Leo had several different bacteria growing in his ears and they had been so damaged by repeated infections that the best way to give him relief from pain and infection was to remove his ear canals. This procedure is called a TECA (total ear canal ablation) and involves removing the ear canal and stitching the ear opening closed. Of course this means that he is totally deaf now. But at least he won't have the chronic pain, itching and headshaking that his ears had been causing before. He is always right behind his people anyway, so you never need to call him. He likes to stick very close to his people. Leo is an easy dog that is very laid back and gentle. He is well housetrained and doesn't bother anything when left home alone. He is good with other dogs and cats. He is gentle with children and meets new people with confidence. Because he doesn't hear we would prefer he have a home with a fenced yard so he can have some freedom outside in a safe space. All Leo wants is a home and family that he can love and be with for the rest of his life. He has a much love to give and deserves even more in return.
