About Ireland

Lab / Rottweiler
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

There's nothing quite like young dog energy and silliness...and then they lie quietly on your lap, so secure in their special relationship with you. These special beings are so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think that they're homeless in rural New Mexico. A giving and kind rescuer temporarily took Ireland in to prevent her from the horrors of a high-kill New Mexico shelter. Farfel's was contacted about the great personality and over- the- top cuteness of this special dog and just couldn't turn her away. Ireland deserves a great home and loving guardians just as much as any sweet and engaging dog with a great temperament. Ireland at just about 18 months old and 47 lbs was facing the end of her life before it ever began. ...she was rescued just in the nick of time. This sweet and engaging Labrador Retriever/Rottweiler mix...a very popular breed mix that's loved for their beauty (soft as cotton and shining costs with such beautiful markings) and the most engaging of personalities is starting out with great energy. The excellent results of Ireland's temperament-testing ended with a transport ticket to Colorado and a new life. Her New Mexico foster said the following about sweet Ireland: Ireland is truly a gem! She has the kind of temperament that we all search for in a family dog! She has been nothing but great since the moment she arrived at my house. Ireland is positive and pretty perfect with other dogs..untested with cats but I'm happy to test her with the neighbor kitty if you'd like. She's also been great with my my 14-year old daughter and her friends (I imagine she would be equally great with all older kids that are gentle with her). I don't think I'd place Ireland with young kids...she's a happy girl that expresses herself with loving/kissing that would be too much for a small/young child. This gorgeous dog is SO smart! If she has the benefit of positive reinforcement group obedience classes, she'll be the smartest girl in the class! It's not that expensive or demanding...once/week for about 8 weeks with 15 minutes of practice each day. It's so worth it! Without a whole lot of effort, you end up with a well-mannered dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior. I know that Farfel's provides a list of positive reinforcement trainers all around Colorado. I'm amazed at Ireland excellence in her potty training since she's experience lots of changes. She's also mastered crate training, sitting, hi-5 and backyard games with lightening speed. (my kids have fallen hard for Ireland just because she's so much fun, so playful and an amazing hiker..plus their friends think she's the greatest :-) Ireland clearly has no memory of her scary start. Since she's a young girl, she's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show her the way. She has all the potential in the world to be an awesome companion. She will form firm bonds with her family (as well as other dogs and humans) and learn positive socialization skills through being a full-time family member being exposed to many different situations out in the world. We're open to Ireland finding her forever home with a very active retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and enjoy a young dog. While Ireland is great with children and other dogs (as stated above). We would prefer to place her in a home with older children that can participate in a gentle yet consistent training regimen. We'd also like a family that doesn't work full-time outside of the home..those very long hours wouldn't speak to a sensitive, bonded companion. Ireland will be arriving on transport in Denver in the month of June. Applications are currently being accepted for this very sweet, fun-loving and loyal best friend. An application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Ireland, please be sure to submit our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most circumstances, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue.
