About Dora

Adoption Fee: $350
German Shepherd
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

German bred and born.Registered. Micro-chipped. She is a gentle, playful 6 y/o spayed female who is excellent with other dogs and people, including children. Excellently trained, Dora sits, heels, plays, stays. She lies down on command, but is hesitant to do so. She offers her paws, one at a time, on command (including turning to opposite side) for drying off when coming in from the outside. She takes medicine well. All shots are current, and she had her teeth cleaned last November. She is a loving and lovable dog. On the downside: Like all German Shepherds, she sheds. Dora has had two episodes of a blackened belly rash during the last 15 months. One was a skin yeast infection that cleared well once it was diagnosed correctly. The second time (which she is just coming out of it) was bacterial. Each of these are likely started from environmental allergies probably from our yard area according to the vet (Food Allergy was ruled out.) She had two small cysts removed from her belly and one from her upper gum last November/Dec. They were benign. She is house-trained and does totally well during the day when she is inside with us. We don't trust her inside overnight without her being in the indoor kennel. Having a pet like this makes frequent overnight travel difficult. We feed her a limited ingredient Salmon/Sweet Potato dog food from PetSmart that costs 49.99 and lasts about one month (2 cups morning and night). Dora would make a wonderful pet for the right person with the right home and non-traveling lifestyle. She barks when a stranger is at the door, but otherwise does not bark, even when passing other barking dogs. New owners MUST be loving, have a good home for her, and be able to afford her food and vet bills.
