About Chichi

Chichi is the definition of a family pet. She loves people and other dogs and is known in our neighborhood as the playful dog next door. She especially loves children and is even best friends with my 8-month-old baby. In the two years that our family has spent with her, Chichi has shown no signs of aggression whatsoever towards anyone or other animals. She even knows many tricks including Sit, Lie Down, Spin, Paw, Speak, Jump, Go to Bed, etc. Our family rescued Chichi when she was a 5-month-old stray wandering the streets alone. The neighbors reported seeing someone in a car abandon her but no one knows where she came from originally. When we took her in, Chichi was covered in cuts and had a large bald spot on the side of her chest which we believe was mange.We treated her with medical shampoos for a month or two and we haven't seen any return of the balding since. We also took her to the vet when she was about 6-months-old for her shots and to get her spayed. While her overall health is very good, Chichi has an allergy which requires medication. Her vet at the Peachtree Animal Clinic has prescribed her a drug called Apoquel which costs $80 bi-monthly. We don't know what she is allergic to but the pills help to suppress her itching symptoms. Without the medication, her paws become inflamed and she begins to develop a yeasty odor. Unfortunately, I suspect it is her allergies that keeps her from finding a good home, despite her awesome qualities. We have contacted every shelter possible several times throughout the two years we've cared for Chichi but they have always been too full to take her in every time we've called. We've tried asking friends if they know anyone looking for a pet but so far we've no one is interested. As for us, it is becoming increasingly difficult for our family to find enough time to take care of Chichi. Between school, work and a new baby, we hardly have the time or energy to take Chichi out for walks or to play. Things have gotten even worse recently due to our neighbors leaving a threatening note on our door that they will call the police if they catch Chichi playing in our yard without a leash. Since we don't have a fence around our yard, Chichi will sometimes run onto our neighbors property while playing. While some neighbors don't mind this, others obviously do. This only makes it more difficult for our family to give Chichi the amount of exercise and attention she needs. Thanks to this, she spends most of her time indoors. My hope is to find Chichi a loving home where she will be well taken care of. She is a sweet-natured dog who just wants someone to play with.
