About DA-BAO - China Save

Adoption Fee: $1000
German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

DA-BAO was saved from the illegal meat trade in China in the Beijing area. He is one of three of our second batch of saved dogs from this horrific life and we hope to be able to continue to save more. Working with rescue's in China, we pay to get these dogs vetted, tested, quarantined and all other requirements to import them to the safety of the rescue in Sebec, Maine. The adoption fee for our dogs we save from China is $1,500 and covers the costs we incur to save this precious souls. Da-Bao, rabies, core vaccines, heartworm, tick-disease and screw worm tested negative. He has been de-wormed, microchiped and received any necessary monthly preventatives. He has an estimated date of birth of 10 March 2016. Da-Bao we believe is a sable German Shepherd Dog. He arrived in the United States on 18th May 2018. We are looking for an experienced working breed adopter for this handsome boy. When we first got Da-Bao out of his crate at the airport he was initially scared and confused but he soon took the change in his stride and was the security for his best friend Er-Bao. We took the dogs for a walk, gave them a drink and some food and then loaded up for the ride home. He settled down quickly in the car and was no trouble at all. His best buddy Er-Bao lay close to him, she was saved at the same time and they lived together at the rescue in China. We would love to adopt these two beauties together, but understand that would be extremely expensive and so most likely not happen, we would offer discount if we could, but we are just not in a position to do so unfortunately. At the rescue Da-Bao and Er-Bao settled in great. For the first week, they was in a pen in the shop so that they could get to know the other dogs, but also settle and decompress after their long stressful, confusing journey. The day before I was going to let them out with the other dogs, Da-Boa had climbed the 4ft fence and had already made his introductions and had been happy playing and chasing with no problems at all. When I let Er-Bao out with them also he was so happy and they both ran around, clearly enjoying their freedom and now worry-free life. Da-Bao is extremely affectionate, when he see's me he will run up with Er-Bao at his side and he rolls back his lips and gives me the happiest grin, he is such a happy, loving boy, but also very high energy and very intelligent. I often go on the back porch which over looks down on the back area that they play in. No matter how quietly I go out there, they can sense/smell me and will run up looking up to see where I am and always run and stand underneath the high screened area where I am stood. If I shout to come on, they will all run in to the bottom of the stairs waiting for me to come down. Da-Bao is on the go all the time and I do feel that he needs a high energy family, a family that goes on regular hikes, adventures and will provide constant training and mental stimulation. He does tend to chase the smaller dogs, so I do keep them apart when I am not supervising so that is something for you to make sure you keep in mind if you have small dogs, small animals or cats. He does use the dog door to get in and out and does go outside to do his business. That is not to say he won't have the odd accident in his new home whilst he adjusts and gets used to his new routine and has his family teach him to let them know he wants to go outside. Until arriving at GaDaH, Da-Bao had never been an inside dog. Da-Bao is a young, high energy boy who needs guidance and training and it is important that he has a family that understands this and has the time and patience to work with him. It is important that they spend time as a family to work on training, setting boundaries and learning each others personality and body language. It is also important to remember that when taking him to new places, caution must be taken to make sure he feels safe and secure, we do not know if any kinds of noises scare him and always remember that he is from another country and another way of life. Da-Bao is a very happy, social boy and has never shown any kind of aggression at all, he lives, eats and sleeps with lots of other dogs and puppies and enjoys the company and so a family with another dog would be great, but if not then it is important that he gets to play and interact with other dogs throughout his life. We do NOT recommend dog parks for several months until a bond and trust and knowing to read his body language has been gained. We do not have cats at the rescue so we cannot comment on how he would be around them, he is very curious and playful and so I would expect chasing at a minimum. Da-Bao is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue which is located in Sebec, Maine, for an adoption fee of $1,000. This fee covers the costs incurred by the rescue to save this precious soul and get her to the US.
