About Stella

Stella in Latin means star, and this brindle beauty is true to her name. An oversized puppy at heart weighing 74 pounds, she was rescued from a high-kill Kansas shelter after having spent her young life outside in a yard. And yet, she's surprisingly sweet and intensely loving towards people, adores snuggling, and having her belly and head rubbed while gaily giving out kisses. Calm in the quiet of her environment, she divides her time between playing with her plastic bones, stuffed animals and Kongs, napping, and following after her fosters for the attention she craves. Curious and bright, easy to teach and eager to please, Stella knows 'sit', 'touch' and 'down', and is at work on being more consistent with 'stay', 'leave it' and 'come'. She's also house and crate trained, staying there when her fosters are out and sleeping soundly inside it at night. Fond of biscuits and high value treats, she accepts them gently and sits politely by the front door when her foster mom puts on her leash and gentle leader before going outside. As active as she is affectionate, she loves exploring the outdoors and rolling around in the grass, but she thrives on brisk walks and a regular exercise regime. While she remains sensitive to new or sudden sounds and movements, the sight of other dogs and small animals which caused her to pull strongly on her leash, she's improving daily, thanks to ongoing training and positive reinforcement. Now what this stellar sweetheart needs is a patient and loving home to continue and perfect her leash skills and maintain a regular exercise routine to keep her mentally stimulated and physically satisfied fur-ever.
