Meet Beau We are growing despondent that our sweet Beau has yet to attract a family of his own. This wonderful dog suffers only from brown dog syndrome. He repeatedly gets overlooked for the flashier, younger dogs. But, let us tell you a bit about Beau and maybe, just maybe, you'll want to make him part of your family. Beau is 4.5 years old. He's thought to be a retriever/hound mix. He's of medium size, but given that he's been confined to a kennel for so long, he's weighs about 58 lbs. Beau was surrendered to us on December 12, 2017. He's been with us for almost two years! You see, after Beau's owner's house burned down, Beau and his owner were living in a car. Beau was surrendered in the hopes that he'd find a loving forever home. Although Beau is loved by us at the shelter, we're no place for a young dog to live out his life. For a long time, Beau kept vigil by his kennel door hoping his only person would return. Hope has faded and Beau has given up on his steadfast watch, resigned that his former life is gone. Over the years, Beau has shown he loves, loves, loves people. He lives for the attention of shelter staff and volunteers. When he arrived he was house-trained. No doubt with a little re-training he'll remember his good manners and quickly re-adapt to life in a home. Beau doesn't seem to like other dogs so much and he definitely doesn't like cats. He'd do best in a home as the only pet, but if that's not an issue, Beau will be the most loving and loyal of companions. He loves going on walks, and walks well. He rides great in a car. He welcomes every outing and traveling with his bestie. He's calm, sweet and affectionate. He has a lovely coat, the cutest of ears, and his eyes show his every emotion. He's a lovely dog and we are hard pressed to understand why he is still with us. If you are looking for your best companion, come meet our Beau. We think you'll fall in love as we have and want to make him a part of your family. Perhaps you'll be the one to help Beau see that all hope is not lost and a good life can still be had. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also accepted from local Animal Control. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.
