About River

River is a 2.5 year old purebread Bloodhound, AKC. He is a great dog 85% of the time. However, he has bit 3 women, including one of his owners. We have been working with a trainer for over a year and some things have improved like recall and walking on a leash, but River has occasional, unpredictable aggressive behavior even to people he is familiar with. Much of it we believe to be associated with resource guarding...food, bed, toys , etc. and mostly at night. We have found him to be the most unpredictable in the evening. Would do best in a home with one or 2 adults, primarily men. Will make a strong bond with primary handler. Will bark at strangers and other animals. Very vocal like most hounds. Would make a good watchdog. Fully potty trained and crate trained with occasional whining. Recalls well with e-collar. Might do well as hunting dog. Knows most commands...here, sit, down, shake, stay, place, kennel. Most of time River is a happy dog who loves playing fetch, swimming and going for walks and car rides, but he is too unpredictable for our growing family.
