About Layla

LAYLA, 2.5 years old, 49 lbs, Brooklyn NY Laylaaaa! You got us on our knees! Eric Clapton must have written Layla about our latest Amsterdof because she is a captivating beauty! Good with kids, lived with and loved another dog, doesn't guard her toys but really, really likes them, housebroken and super sweet to her humans. We rescued this pretty girl just in time from the shelter. We don't always have the scoop on a doggy's past but her previous owners who had to make a the painful choice of surrendering her had nothing but glowing reviews for her. And while we feel for them we think Layla is ready for her forever home. She's working on meeting new dogs on her leash and she still needs to be trained on not chasing squirrels and other little woodland creatures. Like most dogs, this takes some training but Layla is a smart gal. She also loves getting outside and doing doggy exercises like playing and catching. We can't sing or play the guitar but would write a song about Layla too if we could. So if you're looking for a new best friend, come meet our lovely Layla today! A volunteer writes: Gorgeous sweet Layla, so quiet in her kennel all day waiting her turn, she's a tiny little thing with a wagging tail and a big smile. Surrendered to our care with wonderful comments from her former family, Layla lived with an adult and a child with whom she was friendly and relaxed, and also lived with a 10 year old small breed dog with whom she was playful and respectful. The dogs enjoyed chasing each other around the house. Layla doesn't guard her things, likes stuffed toys and playing tug. She was so happy to be out, letting me put a coat on her against the cold, wagging her tail, and jumping up to give me kisses. Layla focuses on birds, wagging her tail and pulling towards them to watch them fly. Maybe she was a bird dog in her previous life? Off leash, she chases a ball, loves playing tug, shows off her sit for treats which she takes softly. When a small dog entered the yard, Layla was so excited to see him, tail wagging and engaging, perhaps reminding her of the small dog she lived with. Layla has what I call parrot mouth, when the end of her bottom jaw doesn't meet the end of the top giving her muzzle a pointed look like a parrot. SO CUTE! It gives her a unique and adorable look, doesn't stop her from enjoying treats and food, playing tug or giving kisses. There's no 'special needs' here other than the need to love and be loved, and yes, that's pretty special. Layla is available for adoption! She is spayed, up to date on shots and microchipped.
