About Ducky

Adoption Fee: $125
Pit Bull mix
Age: Young Puppy
Sex: Male

We are so delighted to introduce Ducky, a 50 pound, one year old neutered male pit mix. When Ducky came to us, he was severely underweight. It's hard to believe that our chubby, wiggly, healthy boy is the same dog who was emaciated and near death when we met him. After 5 months of recovery at the shelter (with weekly sleepovers in a loving home), our sweet boy is finally ready to find a new home. He is just too funny for words and he really thinks he is Gumby. He's happiest if he can be touching his person, even if it's just laying on your feet. Sit him on your lap, he lays limp and comfy,- pretending he is a piece of clay to mold and do what you want. Stick a leg here or there, put a paw up or down- he soaks it all up. The Brits use ' Ducky' as a noun and form of endearment, 'Come over here Ducky and sit down with me'. We Americans- use it as an adjective- 'Things are just ducky- delightful and pleasing'. Either way- He is just Ducky! His sleep-over mom has this to say in describing him: 'What would it be like if Cindy Crawford and Forest Gump had a baby? Gumby? It would be this guy! With his perfect makeup and cute freckles, and his silly, naive character, this guy is like Forest searching for his Jenny! Sweet Ducky is a ladies man. He is an indoor dog who wants to be hugged and loved a lot. He is not an athlete; he likes slow polite walks and quiet tug of war games. He can be suspicious of some men,- but has bonded with others and welcomes them. He does not chase cats, chickens, squirrels, or pretty much any creatures. He has lived with a female dog his size, and they played well together. Having another dog in the home might make it easier for him to be left alone. He does not dig holes, climb fences, or swim. So even tho his name is Ducky- no quack quack water games for him. A work from home or recently retired adopter is encouraged. Ducky has an easier time bonding up with women and wants nothing more than to be snuggled as much as you'll let him! He loves some men (his foster's husband, our male shelter techs) but can be wary meeting new men, so a quiet home with few visitors might be best. He also has met several other dogs at the shelter politely, and loves to play with female dogs. His foster is happy to share her experiences with Ducky who she describes as 'the perfect dog,' if you have any questions. Ducky is an eager pleaser and will require a patient family willing to continue his new experiences in just how wonderful humans can be. A guest of the Josephine County Animal Shelter, Ducky is up to date on all shots and vaccines, neutered and micro- chipped.
