About Dexter

Dexter was found wandering down the road at approximately 5 weeks old. I picked him up on my way to work, but after weeks of calling and posting to find his owners, we determined that he was not being looked for, so we got him neutered, immunized, and made him feel at home. Our two children love him, as does our elderly Shepherd mix, King. Dexter does very well when we have the time to walk him, play with him, and give him appropriate boundaries and corrections. Unfortunately with our busy lives we just aren't able to give Dexter the time and attention he needs to live up to his sweet potential. Dexter is very protective of his home and family, and needs help knowing when to back down from strangers/guests. He responds very well to training and corrections, but will need some extra work as he is still a pup! He likes to chew, so he will need apporpriate toys to keep furniture and shoes safe! While we do not have official papers, two different vets and many friendly dog enthusiasts have said they believe him to be pure American bully. He certainly fits the description. We are only willing to adopt him to someone who truly wants to give this wonderful boy the time and affection needs to live a wonderful life. Fee is negotiable, but is meant to help cover cost of neutering. Dexter is approximately 7.5 months old. I marked unknown compatibility with dogs and other humans because while he is incredibly loving and gentle to us in the home, he does show aggression toward strangers and requires time to warm up to new people. We believe that with more socialization, he will improve in this area, but safety needs to be a priory so I felt a need to disclose.
